How Convict Made Escape From Prison Quarry
The missing convict James Kiser escaped by digging a hole under a wood fence near the quarry while two guards were distracted by a crusher and passing cars. He left evidence by dropping his cap and shoes and moved toward the J embankment to flee unseen. He was last seen near Joliet streets amid discussion of graft and police corruption with calls for public tips to expose gamblers and protectors.

Record Day For Marriage Licenses At County Clerk Office
A Joliet county courthouse report notes a record rush of marriage licenses with six issued before noon and thirteen by evening, surpassing all prior daily totals this year. Deputy Clerk Knowlton processed licenses as couples from across the state and as far as Utah sought marriage certificates, including J Paul and Anna Somer who planned nuptials after the clerk directed them to a judge.
