In OmABA Nebraska October 25 a man named Brandt operating a threshing machine near Waco injured a 13 year old boy by accident. Brandt warned him not to strike again then the boy cut him lightly. Brandt forced the boy into the cylinder head first, killing him instantly. Brandt fled but was captured near Waco and narrowly escaped lynching.
In Montreal on October 25 authorities faced strong opposition while isolating smallpox patients. A carter named Trepanier led neighbors in driving off sanitary police attempting to remove cartel children to the hospital. Trepanier will be summoned before the new court for such cases after another attempt ended with a man threatening officers with a knife before being persuaded to stand down.
Mrs. Ann Fennell of Trumbull suffered a severe hydrophobia attack in Bridgeport last night. Five policemen aided her to the station house after she was stricken on the street. Officer Charles ONeill was bitten in the arm during the incident. Earlier she had been bitten by a dog. She was taken home by friends after the ravings subsided.
Walter Chadwick a well known citizen of Newport was found drowned near Hammels wharf this afternoon after being missing from home for days. He had tied a string around his beard and chin to prevent shouting for help tied his legs placed a belt with bricks inside bricks in his pockets and his hands bound indicating a deliberate self inflicted death.
In Chicano on October 25 Lee Hawes denied the defendants new trial and ordered three Italian men to be executed by hanging on November 14 for the trunk murder. The condemned men showed no visible reaction to the sentence.
In Cleveland Ohio on October 25 August Bienlow a German about thirty was jailed after arrest by a deputy U S Marshal for passing counterfeit currency. He hanged himself in his cell before morning.
The body of Jacob Kauffman a respected Denver musician was found nude on prairie near the Orphans Home. Marks show he forced his way through a barbed wire fence multiple times leaving blood and torn skin. Coroner reports a sudden insanity and did not hold an inquest.
Washington October 23 The rapid accumulation of gold in the Treasury since October 1 has surprised officials and raised questions about calling bonds. Net gold on October 1 was 133000000. Four percent bond interest added a $7000000 liability but disbursements were offset by gold returning from New York through banks and customs. Treasury expects continued cash growth may prompt an issue of three percent bonds.
Washington reports intense activity at the patent office as rival firms seek a report from the Commissioner of Patents to allow the Attorney General to file suit to cancel Bell patent. Applications from Pan-Electric, Baltimore and Washington Telephone, and Globe Telephone are before the Commissioner. He faces political pressure and is expected to limit his report to Patent Office records rather than scientific merits.
A Washington Avenue street car between Sixteenth and Seventeenth streets exploded after running over an unknown object. The blast wrecked the car floor and shattered windows. Three women and one man aboard were frightened but unharmed. crowd denounced the act. No arrests reported.
A letter from El Paso to the Globe-Democrat reports private talk among intelligent Mexicans in Chihuahua supporting annexation of the northern Mexican states by the United States. No open movement or press discussion has occurred yet, but a strong undercurrent favors joining the United States.
Chief Harrigan received letters from Hyde England identifying prisoner W H Lennox Maxwell as Hugh Matham Brooks a solicitor from Hyde. The photos in the prisoner's trunk showed Brooks his mother and sister confirming the alias. Maxwell Brooks faces murder charges for C Arthur Preller at the Southern Hotel last I guess.
Brooklyn reports a fifty year old woman, Mrs Mary Everett of 258 Hudson Avenue, found dead with her imbecile husband Robert in the room. Coroner notes dazed husband, body sent to morgue, husband to hospital. Suspected heart disease.
In Madison Florida on October 25 Rev Alfred Coffee a colored preacher is jailed for the murder of his ten year old son. The boy suffered a fractured skull and died after repeated blows with a pipe a switch a broom and a four foot plank. Coffee said the beating was to discipline the child and make him honest.
New York October 23 report from R G Dun Co shows 177 total failures this week across the United States and Canada, up from 166 last week and 207 the week before. Pacific States and Canada remain notably hard hit while other regions run below average.
Word arrives that John Howell a farmer near Straucca Wayne County Pa shot four of his children aged three to eleven and then killed himself. His wife and eldest daughter were away at the time leaving no witnesses.
In Chariton Township Macon County Mrs Mary Maxwell wife of a farmer died after taking a morphine dose to ease an aching tooth. The dose proved fatal within hours authorities reported.
Ex federal and ex Confederate soldiers gather at Owensboro Kentucky for a multi state reunion. About 350 veterans report to the grounds with camping and a commissary, a parade planned and a Gettysburg panorama drawing school children. General S B Buckner attends as Mexican and Confederate veteran. Captain W T Ellis to give the welcome address tomorrow.
New York October 92. Secretary Whitney mails a circular to all foremen at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. He reiterates their power to recommend names for subordinate positions and demands unbiased, nonpolitical patronage. He cites consequences for inferior political appointments and promises protection against retaliation.
News from Omaha reports fresh violence near Rock Springs Wyoming after clashes with a mob. About thirty Chinese workers, employed as section men on the Union Pacific, fled to the hills and arrived at a military camp chilled by the night assault.
Richmond dispatch reports a deadly explosion at Clover Hill Coal Mines in Raccoon, Chesterfield, with 100 men reportedly entombed. Investigations later found only two men trapped, Hobson Cheatham and A. L. Leigers, both perished. Cheatham's body was recovered that evening.
In Centerville Mississippi three miles from the town on October 21 Robert Johnson a Black man rescued a girl playing on a railroad track as an approaching engine curved into view. He lifted her from danger but the train struck them instantly killing both.
The marriage of Prince Waldemar third son of King Christian of Denmark to Princess Marie daughter of the Ducana Duchess De Char tres was celebrated at the Chateau dEri with a civil ceremony in Paris yesterday and religious services at the chateau today in the private chapel.
In Hamilton County Ohio, the Democratic ticket is largely counted though fraud allegations arise in several Cincinnati precincts. The County Clerk is enjoined from issuing certificates to the State Senators. Republicans seek writs of mandamus and a hearing is set for Monday October 26.
London and Ottawa report the Privy Council dismisses Louis Riel’s appeal for commuting his death sentence. Officials deny any official postponement of the execution beyond November 10.
Philadelphia reports a boy working in Carter's alley suffered his arm torn off by machinery. He walked to a patrol wagon for help, and his arm was wrapped in a newspaper. The boy's name could not be learned.
Counterfeiters captured in Clarion and Forest Counties last week face U S District Court trial in Pittsburgh. Five of the eleven defendants have been convicted and one, George Secrist, was acquitted. Evidence indicates a highly active counterfeit gang has been broken up in the state.

The first full year after the rate cut closed June 30 and shows a projected deficiency near six million dollars, higher than the four million anticipated.
London Ontario reports Dr Madre of Dorchester who ran off with a domestic to East Saginaw Michigan. After returning he persuaded his wife to sell Dorchester property to buy a farm in Delaware, then left for Michigan with the money, leaving his family destitute.
A United States Fish Commission car will depart tonight carrying carp to applicants in Missouri, Nebraska, Wyoming, Idaho, Utah, Colorado and Kansas. It will travel via St. Louis and Omaha to Ogden and return through Cheyenne and Denver to Kansas City and St. Louis. A second car leaves Wednesday night for Portland, Oregon to serve en route applicants in Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Dakota, Montana, Washington Territory and Oregon.
At Platte Lake near Frankfort Michigan Mrs Jane Briggs of Platte Township was picking cranberries when two hunters mistook her hooded figure for a bear and shot her in the neck. She died hours later. An old county resident and mother of a large family.
