In St Paul on October 16 a man named W H Clarke and his son were filling and lighting gasoline street lamps from cans in a wagon. An explosion from a can set fire to the horse and wagon. Clarke was thrown from the wagon and seriously burned, his son badly if not fatally burned.
William Holroyd fifty a tramp was struck by a train at Camp Illinois today and badly used up with both arms broken. condition described as probably fatal he lies in a local hospital awaiting further word.
In HazilTon Pa last night between 8 and 9, four tramps murdered two Kester brothers John 60 and William 54 with a club. They bound them, robbed the house for hidden money, fled, and have not been captured. John Jr. found the bodies and said the money was hidden outside.

When boats were ordered to steam away, a rush ensued, crowds flooded aboard, causing the Geneva to sink and panic on the Edna and Alice. In Hagueron Pa on October 16 an overloaded gun exploded in Ed Burtley s hands killing Robert Fichter instantly as a large barrel pierced his heart. Burtley lost his right arm and Thomas Scott was fatally injured, likely to die.
A strong quake struck Palermo this morning toppling a three story house and trapping residents under rubble. Eight bodies were recovered from the debris as rescue workers searched the ruins.
General Miles in Cutcaco reports Lieutenant Henry T. Allen and a small party crossed the Great Alaskan range on snowshoes, traced the Tennab to the Yukon, and returned via the Bering Strait after a voyage to San Francisco. The feat surpasses earlier Arctic journeys in ambition and scope. Also involved were a sergeant and a Signal Corps officer with Native guides.

The Troy and Boston Railroad bridge at State line near North Hoosie New York burned today. Fire caused by engine spark. Firemen James Wardell and M Burke died when timbers fell while saving the bridge. O F Coy of North Bennington fatally injured. Trains run via Petersburg Junction tonight. The bridge was tall and long, spanning the highway and Walloomsac River.
Philadelphia report says Stephen Bloech and wife of 1329 Germantown Avenue were arrested after a claim he killed a large black dog and she allegedly roasted and served it for lunch Saturday night and Sunday morning. They remain held in $600 bail.
In Springfield on Gallagher Street a five year old boy, Johnny Kearns, was scratched by another child while playing. He fell ill and died from blood poisoning caused by the scratch, a case described as one of the most peculiar on record.
In Centralia Illinois a mine accident crushed miner Siple beneath a falling coal block. He suffered severe injuries including broken legs and extensive mangling and is not expected to survive. News notes his name and the date of the incident October 16.
Philadelphia report states Annie E. Cutter, a young African American woman, pleaded guilty in May to murder in causing the death of her supposed lover William H. Knight, a colored waiter, and was sentenced this afternoon to be hanged.
DopGEVILLE Wis October 15 Mrs Hannah Remley found guilty of aiding her son in the murder of her husband Conrad Remley and was sentenced to life imprisonment with one day per year in solitary confinement. The son, already serving a life term, testified in the case.
Cardinal McCloskey, America's highest Prelate, was laid to rest in New York on October 15 with imposing ceremonies. Archbishop Gibbons of Baltimore delivered the funeral sermon.
A deadly blaze engulfed a Chicago home early morning, killing four of a five member Bates family and leaving a servant girl missing. Firefighters found the charred bodies clustered in the front room and the infant Edward Bates among the ashes. Mrs Bates lay two feet from the front windows burned to a crisp, with Mrs Dreveylson dying of suffocation. The fire reportedly started after six o clock, spreading rapidly through the house before it was extinguished.

Jos Riggs and his party hunted in the Rockies when a wounded grizzly charged. Riggs stabbed the bear through the heart after firing his last cartridge, but died in the struggle. His body was later carried to his former home in Canada for burial.
In Columbus on October 19 a two year old child of Charles Wilson Jr. fell from a second story hotel window. The picket iron pierced the body and held the child until the mother discovered it nearby. The child survived but suffered greatly.
John Hardman, a fireman at Mill No. 2 in New York Mills, left home yesterday to make repairs and was found dead this morning. Authorities believe he died from asphyxiation while working on the damper.
