Carol Mann captured the Lawson Open title amid 40 mph winds, posting 217 to win $7,000. Judy Rankin finished two strokes back, with Sandra Palmer and Marlene Hagge among the top contenders as greens proved troublesome for the field.
Claudia Evans won the top amateur trophy at the Lawson's LPGA Open with a 54 hole 239. Carol Mann anticipated the $7000 first prize, while Vivian Brownlee claimed closest to the pin on 3 and Judy Kimball and JoAnne Prentice won other close to the pin prizes. REACT aided course communications and parking ran smoothly amid generous sponsor car donations.
National and American League leaders in batting runs batted in and stolen bases are listed with players such as Bench and Horton leading in various categories. Sixty six recently graduated Ohio high school football players reported to the Ohio State campus for practices for the 30th annual North South all star game on June 28. Two practices are scheduled daily during the second week leading up to the game.
Six county race at Dragway 42 produced victories for Wadsworth drivers John Baughman in G Stock Automatic Larry Nelson in O Stock Automatic and Beth Berger in J Stock. Medina contenders Russ Foster and John Starn won I Stock and D Production respectively. Leo Eichelberger of Brunswick won CC Hot Rod.
Gerspacher Realty beat Gallucci Chevrolet 11 to 10 in Medina Ponytail League. Winning pitcher Judy Baker closed out the game as Jackie Dunning hit a late run. Mary Ann Dick took the loss.
