Reminiscences of Lexington's old hotel and store era
The article recalls the early Lexington store once owned by John Meetze and later by George P. Crafts with the adjacent large hotel. It details the Hendrix and Drafts families, their homes, and notable members like Walter Drafts, Miss Lizzie Drafts, and Dr. Julian Kaufman, plus the Hendrix and Meetze connections. It mentions the old street layout, a passing of people westward after the war, and the destruction of nearby buildings except the Drafts hotel. The piece ends with brief Route 3 notes on local life and a minstrel event.
