School Children to Be Vaccinated at Start of Term
Superintendent Whittle announces state law requires all first time entrants to be vaccinated for the new school session beginning Monday. Children who attended last year’s school are not required to vaccinate again. Whittle also urges students not to purchase textbooks until they visit the school on Monday for a complete list.

Negro impersonator ordered to wear men's clothing in Columbia
Richard Watson, alias Rachael Watson, a negro female impersonator, appeared before the Recorder's Court in Columbia. The judge sentenced him to 30 days wearing men’s clothing and performing light prison work. Watson arrived from Danville Virginia and had been employed as a woman in another state.

George M Corley Dies at 88 in Lexington Farm Life Civil War Veteran
George Marion Corley died Tuesday August 29 1922 at age 88 after months of suffering. Born May 23 1834 he served in the Civil War with Gibbes Company 1st Regiment and later 5th Cavalry SC Volunteers. He married Caroline Taylor in 1869 and left seven children, nine grandchildren, and several great grandchildren. Funeral held at home with funeral rites by Rev A B Obenschain and Rev W C Wallace, interment in family burying ground.

Miss Ruth Buff of Lexington married Lester Kip of Freehold New Jersey in a 4 p.m. Sunday ceremony at the Main Street Methodist church parsonage in Columbia. Rev R S Truesdale presided. The bride wore dark blue poiret twill with a blue hat and carried roses and ferns with a rope of pearls. The couple will honeymoon in Washington and New York City before settling apart from Lexington. A chest of silver was among the gifts from the grandmother and uncles.

Two Men Arrested for Larceny From Person in Lexington Jail
Two young men about 18 to 20, Edward Lyon and E G Mooney from Pelivania, were jailed in Lexington on larceny charges after accessing David F Morton’s room in Swansea. Morton, heading to Florida, woke to find his cash and a watch missing, then the suspects were arrested in Wellford with most of the stolen money recovered.

Rattler Kills Man in Forest Attack on Auterle South
A man named Fy H. Drafts, a colored laborer, was shot and killed Tuesday evening on Mount Autuhle South’s plantation by a rattler snake. The snake delivered six inches of bite and ten rattles before the fatal encounter ended.
