County fairs and harvest notes from Beatrice and Pawnee City

Autumn began midweek as farmers sow wheat. Edgar Henrichs exhibited Hampshire hogs at the county fair. Dr and Mrs Claude Ellis returned from a western trip as Gage county fair events run Sept 29 to Oct 2 and Pawnee County fair runs Oct 6 to 9.

Pickards Visit Diller Relatives at Jefferson County Fair

Mr and Mrs J A Pickard of Madison visited Diller relatives Sunday as Wiemers Bros exhibited Chester White hogs at the Jefferson County Fair in Fairbury and won ribbons. A daughter was born Wednesday evening September 16 at a Beat Rice hospital to Clyde M Thober and his wife north of Diller, the first great grandchild of A Mayborn and wife of Diller.

Boost for the Movies In Diller by Commercial Club

The Commercial Club now runs the Moving Picture show and invites local patronage for a year of trial. Success depends on attendance and boosting profits for charity. Next Friday night opens with a featured film, stores will close, and extra seating is arranged for a full house. S. C. Hutchinson urges all members to attend with families and support local entertainment. The Omaha Methodist conference appointed ministers to Beatrice and nearby districts, with several Diller clergy reassigned or yet to be supplied.

Carroll veterinarian improves after anthrax exposure

Dr. W C Logan of Carroll Nebraska who contracted anthrax while inspecting diseased cattle was reported improving and out of danger. Logan a former Diller resident graduated from Diller High School in 1913.

Auto Collision Near Ellis Injures Five

A two car crash two miles south of Ellis on Friday September 18 injures F A Rulla of Beatrice severely with a head and body injury and a broken rib. Paul Weiderman of Beatrice also suffers cuts and bruises along with his brother Ben Weiderman of Ellis. Rathburn of Ellis escapes unharmed. Weiderman’s car overturns three times, catches fire and burns.

County fair opens with full exhibits and thrilling auto races

The county fair begins a four day run with full departments and a strong showing from Diller schools. A lively program includes free acts and a crowded midway. Opening auto races drew a large crowd with five cars, planned pony and shell races and ongoing racing through Thursday amid some rain yesterday.
