Dr and Mrs S B Viers and Serenus went to Superior Sunday to be with Frank Viers, brother of the doctor, who is seriously ill. Dr and Mrs Claude Ellis joined them to Cheater where they spent the day with their son Dr Cecil Ellie and his wife.
Western and southern states lag in benefits of the NRA upturn and will be last to feel the next downturn. Science has improved most things except taxes as rich income tax dodgers remain beyond reach of Providence.
A Red Cloud special reports Silas Viers visiting at his son's home was attacked by a large hawk while crossing a field. The bird pinned his hand and palm with talons and beak, retaining its grip until Viers stunned it with a cane. The hawk spanned over four feet.
The Plymouth picnic is held this week. Mrs Mary Strocky returned Wednesday from Blue Springs after visiting relatives. Three thousand people attended the first day of the rodeo at Fairbury.
The Barnsdall Oilers defeated Diller 13 to 7 in a Sunday baseball game. Key plays and standout performances helped the Oilers secure the win.
Mrs. Hyde of Fairbury stays with Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Hill. Merlin Lottman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jake Lottman, fell from a teeter totter at school Monday and dislocated her left shoulder.

Mrs Onka Franzen traveled from Steele City on a Wednesday to check on her aunt Mrs Mary Wright who has been poorly for some time and how she is faring.
The Allpress Recitalists present a program at the Congregational church Thursday evening September 28 at 7 30. Adults 10 cents high school children 5 cents Grade school children free.
Mise Mildred Mayborn pipe organist at First Presbyterian Church Lincoln returned to service last Sunday morning after a summer vacation.
Mrs C H Wright announces a public sale at her farm home four miles east and one half mile north of Diller on Wednesday October 4. Stock farm implements and household goods will be offered. Watch for bills printed at this office.
Mrs. Fred Clark hosted a birthday dinner Monday for Buddy, featuring a large angel food cake with fresh fruits as the centerpiece. The menu included fried chicken, pies, orangeade, and other favorites for the boys.
Word reached Vint Logan late Tuesday of Billy Logan’s serious injuries after a car from a Lincoln party struck him as he darted between two parked cars on the street. He was knocked down on the pavement and remains unconscious.
Mrs Floyd Goldsberry former Miss Hazel Lottman was honored at a miscellaneous shower hosted by Marie Distil and Francis Distil Wilson at 1121 E. St Fairbury. Attendees included Miss Margaret Logab and Mrs Scott Miller with a fine time reported.
Mr and Mrs Raleigh Bell and Sue Ann vacationed with his parents in Fairbury then visited her parents in Lincoln. Raleigh sold his precary eters in Lincoln last week and they plan to stay there.
The Omaha meeting read the year’s appointments. E. C. McDade becomes Beatrice District superintendent, replacing A. C. Hinson who goes to Hastings. Robert E. Drew is assigned to Diller. Other Diller pastors receive new postings including W. L. Hadsell Jamaica and E. E. Pengeny Shelby Wesley Chapel.
Robert Beckwith son of Mr and Mrs H H Beckwith married Mise Faye Rachow of Carleton Neb last Sunday. A fuller notice will appear in the Record next week.
Carl Stange and a cousin of Mrs. Warman of Nealeville Wisconsin traveled Saturday after receiving word that Paul Stange, brother of Carl, was ill following an operation at Lincoln General Hospital last week.

Mrs. Warman and relatives went to Lincoln to visit Paul Stange who had a major operation and a severe post operative hemorrhage. He later needed another operation and is in critical condition. In the same ward E. E. Weigel is recovering from a recent operation and principal Davis of Diller High School is able to sit up.
Jefferson County Wheat Production Control Assn meeting in Diller postponed from Tuesday to Friday night. W T Logan elected director of Pleasant precinct while J Smith Diller and Quinter I Fry named committeemen to serve till July 7. A county organization meeting set for Fairbury on Saturday September 25. Wheat contract applications accepted until Monday September 25.
