Omaha man visits Hutchinson family during weekend

A son from Omaha stayed Saturday through Monday night with his parents Mr and Mrs S C Hutchinson. The Loock family and son in law E R Henrichs drove 250 miles visiting Nehawka Weeping Water Union and Nebraska City in two cars. They enjoyed a very hot stretch of days.

Vieths and Kite Tie The Knot In Nebraska?

Mr Arthur Vieths 37 of Diller and Miss Lois Kite 26 of York Nebr united in marriage by the Methodist minister at Aurora Neb Wednesday. They are on a wedding trip and will live on their farm two miles north three east of Diller. The Record extends congratulations.

Sunday Dinner With Neighbors Ends With Ice Cream

Charley Cully and George Cunningham shared a warm Sunday meal with neighbors Mr and Mrs Pyshaee and others. They wandered town, then returned with ice cream after a cake and pie lunch as the day grew warm.

Miss Manan Diller Hubert Filley and Lynn Cooper attend Pern State Normal. Mr and Mrs J-O Wright returned to Powell, Wye after a summer with Diller relatives. Miss Mildren Mayborn Enters Baldwin Wallace Conservatory

Miss Mildren Mayborn left Wednesday for Berea Ohio to enter Baldwin Wallace Conservatory of music to study pipe organ with Albert Riemenschneider and piano. Her scholarship honors her scholastic excellence at the University of Nebraska.

The Jefferson county fair will debut a new race track ready for use during the fair from September 22 to 25. Auto races led by Roy Bomgs and Leo Hughes, plus horse pony and mule events, athletic contests and many livestock entries are planned. Further program details are expected.

Dry ground hampers plowing as farmers report soil hard

Farmers say the ground is too dry and hard for plowing. L M Cavett is adding to his mother's rental property on Castor Street. Rev. D B McLaughlin is 80 poorly and practically shut in, with friends hoping for better health. Cal Waggoner won first place in the class A shoot at the Omaha Labor Day midwest trip shoot and finished second in the grand championship, breaking 206 of 400 targets.

Drought Drives Early Corn Harvest and Local Departures

The week brought extreme heat with temperatures above 100 degrees and corn drying rapidly ready for harvest earlier than usual. Della and Deans Weddle visited grandparents, while Mr and Mrs Chas Barber left for Sterling Colorado. Della will start senior year at a Sterling high school and Donna is a sophomore.

Dowling Dies Riding Home After Visit

Tom Dowling died on the train while returning from a visit, with his niece Mrs Vernon Hill and other relatives nearby. He had recently undergone a serious operation and was en route to the home of his daughter and sister at White. Mrs J DeVere Hale and husband were also mentioned in the report.

State Fair Attendance Drops Amid Heat and Depression

Visitors from Diller and nearby areas travel to the state fair despite a hot season and economic hardship. Overall daily turnout trails past years with Labor Day crowds about 30,000 lower. 25,882 attended this year versus 43,692 last year. Sand and gravel distribution near Steele City and Diller

The former W H Roulston farm sand and gravel are being distributed along the highway through Diller. Beginning Monday at the cemetery corner north of town, sand could reach Diller by Saturday night as gravel spread continues. The process is ongoing.

County men repair P W F highway from Fairbury to Diller area

County commissioners work along the P W F highway from Fairbury to the Diller cemetery line. Crews install four bored pipes near Ke ravite west of the cemetery, fill low spots, and plan resurfacing to the county line toward the big octer, improving the road's shape.

At the home of Mrs Frank on Thursday afternoon September sixteenth N R C meat meeting gathered eight visitors and five children.
