Sept 4 11 state fair at Lincoln dates Sept 22 25 Jefferson County Fair at Fairbury listed as upcoming community events with locations and timing.
Vacation days end as Labor Day approaches. Dr. Ellis will be out Monday and Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Moser visited relatives near Home City Kansas Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. R. F. Starr returned from a two week trip to North Central Kansas. Attending to business in Lincoln were W. I. Filley and daughter Eleanor, Eyleen Green, Gilbert Plager, and Ralph Beckwith. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Stahl twins Aug 31. Mrs. C. A. Ewers and relatives from Fairbury visited Isabella Raymond. Lee Calkins improving after sickness. Dean Barber visiting Lincoln. Roy Fisher leaves for Lewellen Nebraska to teach. Rolf Beckman improving after nail injury. Laura Munson and three children return to Lincoln after visit with D. V. Fanders. O. R. Diehl weekend with his father Dr. O C Diehl. Oliver now district rep for Radio Division of Greenlease Lied Motors in Omaha returning from Hastings.
A congregational meeting of the church is called for next Sunday immediately after Sunday school to consider matters of importance to the church. Board of Trustees.
Notice asks all available helpers to attend the final seasonal cleanup at Prairie Home cemetery on Monday afternoon September seventh. Bring tools that will be useful. Ordered by the Cemetery Board.
Clint Tinstman and family with Miss Esther Gretzinger of Tobias returned home Tuesday after visiting in Diller. They came from Sheldon Wisconsin where they visited his brother W Tata and family. They found Tata’s wife much improved in Madison hospital and took her home.
Cornbelt Lumber Co announces a forthcoming coal delivery by rail in a few days. They claim the coal was bought at a discount and will extend the savings to customers with a guarantee backing every ton. Contact C L Geer at Mer or phone 153:02.
Belleville hosts the North Central Kansas Free-Fair as the last day of the county event with exhibits, displays, talent programs, and daily horse and auto racing. Attendees from Diller include Mr and Mrs Geo Riceteé and son Max Wie, Gwendolyn Gregg, Scott Miller and family, Mrs Mary Willems, Mrs Sam Thompson and Mary-Lou, and others such as Joe Carpenter and Harvey Powell.
Clarence Sixel recovers from a summer flu while Frank Robinson nurses an injury to a finger from a wood sliver. A half inch rain Monday night, though delayed, will benefit the corn. Dr. and Mrs. Claude Filis plan to attend a dental convention in Omaha Monday and Tuesday next week.
Graydon Habicht of Worthing Minnesota visited his grandmother Mrs. Nancy Robertson and other Diller relatives on Sunday at her home.
Lanham Lutheran Church hosts an ice cream social next Saturday September 5 starting at 5 p m. Events include home made ice cream cake coffee and sandwiches. The public is invited to attend.
The piano students of Mildred Mayborn performed a recital at her home. Pieces included Waltzes by H. Cramm and Bond, songs by Norma Green and Caroline Rose Clark, and selections by Beethoven and Gaynor Wiemers. Performers included Della Wienmere, Bobbie, Babsie, and Gretchen Fanders among others.
Family and friends gathered Sunday August 30 at the Garrels home to celebrate his 78th birthday. Thirty five relatives enjoyed a bounteous dinner, afternoon games, ice cream, cake, and photos. Guests from Kansas towns and Nebraska cities joined in the day.
Rev W F Clark resigns as pastor of the Congregational church in Lebanon after four and a half years. He will retire from regular ministry but has accepted a vacancy at Penney Farms Florida. The Lebanon Republican lauds his leadership and notes he and his wife are well regarded in community life.
John Miller of Lincoln joined nephew Scott A Méliér at his home. The Record invites readers from the Diller vicinity attending the Lincoln state fair to notify names of those they meet. Rhue Green of Chicago and George Simcox of South Bend, Indiana, visited Diller relatives then returned to Lincoln for a few days before continuing home.
Eyewitnesses identify the person who helped themselves to our peaches from an exposed tree in broad daylight. We are debating possible actions and leaning toward prosecution.
Henry Fouts came back to Clarinda Iowa on Wednesday after a brief stay with his mother Mrs Elizabeth Fouts and sister Miss Averil Fouts Averil left Wednesday for Spokane Washington to lead the Home Economics department at Lewis and Clark High School in Spokane Washington
Thief broke into D W Fanders garage last week taking two tires some smaller items and about two to three dollars in cash. The cash register was opened and most drawers ripped through suggesting a hidden money pouch. The sheriff was notified but no arrests have been made yet.
Mr. Floyd Hughes of Steele City accompanied R. F. Starr on a three days business trip to eastern Nebraska. The pair traveled for professional reasons and returned without incident.
The Woman's Club will start a week later this year as members plan to attend the State Fair. The first meeting is set for Wednesday afternoon September 16 at Mrs. John Carico's home. A notice will appear in next week's issue.
The Girls Reserves gathered at Mrs. L. Geer's home on Saturday evening August 29 for a picnic supper on the lawn. Afterward they visited city hall for homemade ice cream and cake served by Congregational S S ladies, then sang G A P op songs and played games. The lawn buzzed with activity and laughter as they returned to the sponsor's home, expressing thanks and hoping to meet again soon.
