Entries cover eye care services by G H Newton and A D Ackerman in Fairbury, a missing rimless nose glasses reward, Hazel Fisher visiting Wymore, Neil Diller taking an auditor post in Omaha, a new birth in Kidder Missouri, Jack Green’s return from military service, and school opening hours adjustments for the first day.
Mrs. Marie Habicht accompanied Mr. and Mrs. C. L. E. Blauser on a trip to Lincoln early last week. The next day Habicht departed for Spokane to visit relatives and friends until next spring. Diller family members joined in Beatrice for a Sunday dinner before D. H. Diller joined his wife on the trip home to Pittsburg Kansas.
Registration will be held Friday afternoon and Saturday with teachers assisting and meeting pupils. Ten pupils should attend Saturday to receive certificates and have tuition certificates filed. The aim is to have all students registered and their courses prepared for a Monday morning start without delays.
The note mentions Diller schools opening at 9 o'clock next Monday and Max Bell staying in Lincoln after visiting the fair and meat market. A peach wagon is en route, and a general telephone call is anticipated. John Clausson sells pumps and tanks near Loock and Habicht. Mr and Mrs Schnuelle and Mr and Mrs Kolker Funders from Harbine area drove to Colorado and back via Omaha Lincoln Beatrice, then returned home to Diller.
The Misses Hannah and Lillian Osborn are staying with their aunt Mrs. A. H Colman and returned Sunday from a vacation visit to relatives in Horton Kansas.
Mr and Mrs Marten Fanders returned Thursday from a Dodge sedan journey to Colorado summer resorts near Denver and report a very enjoyable trip.
Mr Will Hollenberger of Avoca arrived in Diller on Monday for a short visit with his sister Mrs W J Filley and parents Mr and Mrs Geo Hollenberger Sr. The Hollenbergers and family drove over from Western on Tuesday returning home that evening.
Mr and Mrs C E E Blauser are in Lincoln this week for the State Fair and looking for a house. They plan to start building on a suburban tract Mr Blauser recently bought once they secure a residence.
The writer describes a pleasant trip to Omaha and back with car trouble but a fine visit with son Earl Pearce and family in Lincoln. They attended the largest state fair there and returned home safely, noting the weather may have helped or hindered the journey.
Miss Lena Lottman visited friends at Odell and returned home Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Schuvelle of Helvey were guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Line. A. D. Acker man promotes eye care in Fairbury as an optometrist. Billie Tristman and Flo Warthen visited Charley Warthen near Washington Sunday. Deputy Sheriff Chas Slaughter posted notices in Diller for the September 16 primary election to choose delegates to the state constitutional convention. Diller Telephone asks for rate increases filed with the state railway commission. Miss Lela Mann, former Diller student, heads to Beatrice to teach this winter. Robert Eastwood visited before returning to Lincoln for university studies.
J D Fanders sells his entire automobile grid implement business to Cedric Fanders and Wobertson in a deal dated Oct 1 to Oct 10. Fanders retires after more than 35 years in Diller mercantile work and plans a Colorado trip to settle land interests after the firm takes possession.
Chancellor Vernon and Ruse Skrabal, young Rock Creek residents, wed at M. E. parsonage with Rev. H W Wagner officiating. Ruth Chancellor and Frank Adams served as witnesses. The couple will reside on the groom’s father’s Rocky Creek farm after Sept 15.
The K. K. K club entertained their husbands at Mr. and Mrs. F. Hartzell's home on Friday evening August 29. Guests were invited to a Real Peace Table for a three course dinner followed by toasts. Lanterns lit the porch as ladies provided entertainment and a game guessing the number of flags in the centerpiece. Punch was served throughout.
Miss Beulah Thompson returned from Des Moines with relatives visiting. S J Thompson family and S F Clark family attended the state fair. Sgt. Hugh M. Miller, two years in the army medical department, expected to arrive at his mother Lottie Miller in Beatrice on the 10th after service at General Hospital No. 16 New Haven. He returns to work for Blue River Merc Co. Health improved and weight up forty pounds since enlistment.
Miss Elsie Hullman and Mr. Fred Diekhoff were married at St Pauls Lutheran Church with Rev. Hansen officiating. The couple will reside in Diller at the Schaddel residence where Diekhoff works as a salesman.
Harriet Ann Faegans Bray Hayes, born June 24 1887 in Harper's Ferry Virginia, died August 29 1919 at 82. The widow of William Holtzclair and later William L Bray had eight children, surviving daughter Mrs Georgis Hayes, two brothers, twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted by Rev H W Wagner at the Hayes home and burial followed in Sterling Nebraska.
Mrs Thos P Price and Velma returned to Kansas City after visiting Diller Beatrice and Harbiner relatives. Mr and Mrs Chas Alford and their son in law and daughter with two children from Clay Center Nebr stopped Tuesday night with Mr and Mrs Geo Riddle on return from visiting relatives in Missouri. Mr Alford is a cousin of Mr Riddle.
The Diller Womans Club resumes after summer with a Tuesday meeting at City Hall on September 9. All members should attend and may invite friends. The social committee leads, with a special program prepared for next year and parts aimed at member education and interest. Special music will be provided.
Church year ends with reports due next Monday as pastor leaves for University Places by noon. Subscribers are urged to pay church budget by Saturday night and first Centenary pledges by next Sunday evening. Pastor to preach Sunday morning and read annual report Sunday night. Second year work moves into history, with thanks to supporters.
