Community notices summarize a free movie next Wednesday night and various local happenings. Items include Miss Vera Pley visiting relatives in Colorado, local families visiting Beatrice and Lincoln, house rentals and homes for sale, livestock for sale, and Hallowe en programs at Oak school with teachers and residents mentioned.
A car belonging to Paul Beck, formerly of Diller and now of Lin, was stolen a few nights ago. The vehicle was recovered the next day with its tires and other accessories removed.
Tonight at District 85 near Diller an event opens at 8:00 with 10 cent admission led by Gladys Hays. The B B Kensington group met Oct 25 with 11 members and one guest. On Nov 4 the anniversary all day meeting will be at Mrs C C Barnett’s home. Members must bring a potluck dish and ten cent contribution.
Mrs. H Frerichs hosted a linen shower for Miss Martha Frerichs last Friday evening. The gathering included games and refreshments for thirty guests. Miss Frerichs departed yesterday for Sidney. By One Who Was There.
Carrico Mrs Chas Hilder Mrs Will Henrichs Charlotte Loock and Mrs Charles Waggoner entertained the Pa class in the church basement Thursday afternoon. After the business meeting the ladies enjoyed several contests and dainty refreshments were served to forty five guests.
Mr and Mrs Will Frisbie of Fairbury entertained at a six o'clock dinner Saturday evening in honor of Dr Leverett Bristol of New York City. The guests present included Mr and Mrs Ed Moore and Richard of Plymouth Mr and Mrs F W Frisbie and family Mr and Mrs Frank Frisbie Geneva Rose and Bobbie Mr and Mrs Henry Frisbie of Diller and Dr Bristol.
A pleasant one day automobile trip is described from Diller through Blue Springs Wymore Marysville Blue Rapids Irving and Marin dale to Manhattan Kansas. The route follows the Cornhusker highway along the Big Blue river past stone built structures through rich farming valleys and past an important gap mill near Blue Rapids. Manhattan is depicted as a thriving college town of about 7000 with shaded streets hotels a park and the Agriculture College, touted as the largest in the world.
The Record highlights Armistice Day as more than memory and rejoicing, stressing a peacekeeping spirit with Youth involvement through the Junior Red Cross. It notes a feature article on the theme by Elmo Scott Watson titled An Armistice Day Message.
Jeff E Day a 32 year old railway track laborer died after a crushed foot injury at a Beatrice hospital from a turntable accident in the round house yard at Wymore He left a wife and child and had recently moved from Diller to work for the Burlington He was taken from Strange Neb for burial and his family traveled from Manhattan Kan on Sunday.
Thirty head of choice Jersey and Guernsey milk cows will be sold at public auction on Saturday October 29 in Odell. Sale begins at 1 30 p m regardless of weather. Cattle aged 2 to 5 years include fresh cows with calves by side and heavy springers. Cattle passed 60 day tuberculosis retest. Purebred but unregistered herd noted as high quality and not culled. Local families mentioned in brief society notes.
Dr. O. C. Diehl and his children Oliver and Eleanor were Sunday guests of Oliver’s grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Rhodes, longtime Beatrice residents.
