President Roosevelt will address the nation on October 27 about navy issues and total defense. The speech accompanies a Navy League dinner marking Navy Day, broadened by proclamation to Naval and Total Defense Day.
The Diller farm event north of Steele City drew a crowd as wet green corn made husking difficult. Top score under 20 bushels here, while Gage County saw 34 plus bushels. Mrs. Clarence Steffen and her mother Mrs. Jennie Line traveled to Lincoln on Tuesday to attend the funeral of Park Koons who died last Saturday at his sister Mrs. Erva Blair’s home. Koons had been ill for two years and was about 74 years old. The Record plans a suitable obituary next week.
Tri Beta international biology fraternity selects Reuben Fanders as vice president. A third year student, he previously graduated from Diller High in 1937.
Five babies and their parents gathered Friday evening October 17 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Giesbrecht to mark the first birthday of Gene and Joan Wiemers Nancy Kay Baudfolk Florence Giesbrecht and Linda Loth all born within days of each other at Odell hospital. A lunch of jello and a decorated cake followed with many gifts for each child.
Secretary Knox announced that Naval Reserve members are being released from active duty as soon as possible, sparking a recruiting boom. In the first six days of October the Naval Reserve recorded 1,016 enlistments, surpassing 1,004 regular Navy enlistments.

Ambulances from Chas Waggoner took Emma Rentschler to University Hospital in Omaha for a surgical operation. Walter Scheele, with Miss Emma Rentschler, accompanied them, and they brought back John Rentschler from the same hospital after his stay.
Ble and Co. County officials selected Arthur Kenning Clyde Mc Curdy and Alex Brott for a jury panel at Ble. The names indicate local residents from Arthur Endicott and Harbine chosen to serve.

The Jefferson County Agricultural Conservation Committee announced a new AAA Farm Program phase paying $1 per ton for properly stored ensilage on farms. The rule aims to move forage and feed crops into silos as harvests approach, with guidance available from local county or community committeemen.
Marilyn Miller performed a button twirling act on the banquet program at the District convention of the American Legion in Jansen on Wednesday evening. Robert E Koepff of Plymouth and Tobias Migs Verneda Wienke of Western were married at Friedens Evangelical and Reformed Church in Western Nebraska in a single ring ceremony performed by Rev. Paul J. Bode. The couple will reside in Plymouth.
Mrs Ruth S Benson, 49, died Sunday in Lincoln. Born in Odell, she lived 20 years in Lincoln. Survived by husband Vern L Benson, two daughters, and two brothers John and Richard Callan of Odell.
Diller Public School concluded a lively junior play about the Ross family moving into a new home. The production featured a dozen student actors, was well received by a full audience, and earned praise for casting and pacing. Teachers attended the Teacher's Convention, and plans emerged for the upcoming one act contest at Daykin.
