Pete Wenz Wins County Core Husking Championship at Steele City
A large crowd attended the Steele City core husking contest. Pete Wenz won the championship with 1214 pounds in 80 minutes, followed by Roy McCord of Fairbury with 1176 pounds and Carl Diekman of Beatrice with 1174 pounds. Entertainment and dancing followed the event.

Injured Friday and Lucile Friday in Marshaltown crash
Mr and Mrs Friday were injured last Friday near Marshaltown Iowa when an unidentified reckless driver wrecked two other cars and fled. Dale Friday sustained serious injuries. he was listed as only fair. Mrs Friday had bruises and was released from Deaconess hospital. Ralph Hilder of Conrad escaped injury. The collision occurred at a highway junction after Friday swerved to avoid the stranger and struck a spillway.

R C Hoyt Dies A longtime Omaha court clerk
Richard C. Hoyt 84 formerly of Beatrice died after a heart attack. He spent half his life as clerk of the U S district court in Omaha and was a nephew of President Grover Cleveland. Born in Holland Patent New York he moved to Nebraska in 1877 to organize lumber yards. Funeral services were held in Omaha and Beatrice with burial at Evergreen Home Cemetery Beatrice. Survivors include his widow a son and two granddaughters.
