Club meeting details with hostesses and speaker

On October 20 at 2 15 p.m. hostesses Mrs O J Mayborn and Mrs F Horsky welcome guests. Leader Mrs Scott Miller presents This Freedom of Ours with music and colored slides of Hawaiian flora. Mrs Clara Allen notes the club is invited to visit the Jansen Women’s Club on October 26.

Another Admiral For Nebraska Navy

Mrs. Scott Miller was commissioned an Admiral in the Great Navy of the State of Nebraska by Governor Val Peterson for special trust and confidence in patriotism valor fidelity and abilities. She was among six Jefferson county women named to Who's Who in Nebraska in 1940.

Doane students share culture at Congregational church program

Miss Schu from Doane College spoke on China at the Sunday School hour detailing government, daily life, customs, and social scenes. She displayed Chinese articles and demonstrated chop sticks reading and handwriting while autographing items in her native script. Funeral notices follow.

Longtime Diller Farmer Bert A Bell Dies at 71

Bert Alexander Bell born September 26 1877 in Diller Nebraska died October 8 1948 aged 71 years 12 days He married Addie May Barton February 12 1902 and had daughter Florence He lived in Diller his whole life active in local groups including Diller Cemetery Association Diller Farmers Grain Association and Partners Store He belonged to Woodmen of the World Survived by daughter Mrs Claude Daan of Greeley Colorado twin granddaughters Mrs Beulah Reed and Mrs dea Worden three sisters and two brothers Funeral services were held October 11 1948 at Waggoner Funeral Home with burial at Prairie Home Cemetery beside his wife.

Pinochle Party for American Legion and Families

Last Friday evening members of the Dilier American Legion and Auxiliary at their Legion hall competed for high scores with prizes awarded to Opal Glathir and Otte Spletman. Low scores earned Marilyn Miller and Eddie Behrende prizes. Barbecued beef sandwiches were served. Mr and Mrs Gerald Sendman and twin daughters of Denver visited Lon Snyder and relatives in Harbine and Jansen. On the return trip they stopped at Jeanie to visit their uncle Ralph Sandman.
