Ira Anderson came back Friday from Marsland where he visited his brother Archie Anderson and helped harvest fifteen acres of potatoes. He reports an excellent yield.
Gus Winkler, a Chicago gang figure long linked to bank robbery and extortion, was shot at a beer distributing depot. He died forty minutes later after being hit with heavy buckshot. Police investigated, while witnesses recalled his violent career and alleged ties to a major bank robbery syndicate.
Druggist A. R. Milow was a Fairbury business visitor Wednesday. Mrs. Cloyd Cully has an infected finger that is quite painful and we hope not serious.

Mr and Mrs Henry Frisbie of Lincoln and their nephew Keith Albers of Beatrice spent Sunday at the home of Mrs Frisbie s parents Mr and Mrs Asa Richardson near Diller in Nebraska.
Mr and Mrs Will Myers and family of Lincoln Miss Grace Myers and Mr Cummins of Falls City and Chas Carr of Fairbury were Sunday dinner guests at the home of Mr and Mrs Fannie Eick.
Mr and Mrs M Callander enjoyed a Monday visit from her cousins Mr and Mrs J L Eiser of Lincoln and their friend J D Meriweather of Los Angeles California. Meriweather was enroute from his old home in Louisiana Mo where he had visited relatives and friends.
Paul Stange, in Lincoln General Hospital, via visitor Mr. Moffit, reports he is progressing well and can sit up. He expects to return home to Diller soon as friends express happiness at the news.
A surprise birthday party was held Sunday evening October 1 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Baker. Ernest Stefford received many well wishes from invited friends who enjoyed games and refreshments before departing at a late hour.
A purse was picked up at City Hall Monday evening and four dollars taken. It was later found on the walk south of the farmers store and returned to the owner. The writer condemns the petty theft and calls for severe punishment.
Harlan Weaver and his family from Harbine spent Sunday visiting the Fred Hauver residence.

Mrs J J Conniff Mr and Mrs Henry Creith and daughter Shirley Mrs Grace Conniff and daughter Marjorie of Lincoln and Mr and Mrs J H Hemminger of Beatrice were Sunday guests of Messrs and Mesdames C E and C L Waggoner.
Perley Place and sisters Hazel and Ethel with Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Amos traveled to Lincoln last Friday. They visited Mr. Paul Stange at General Hospital where he is reported to be getting along nicely. They also spent time touring the state capitol, which they deemed worthwhile.

Games and refreshments followed with compliments to the guest of honor.
Mr and Mrs L V Raymond and Phyllis Joe and Robert of Lincoln join Mrs Isabella Raymond in a Sunday visit. La Forrest and Robert recently toured Elkhart and Chicago Exposition then attended a theatre program of 40 entertainers broadcast by Dr Miles Medical Co from KOIL CBS network Saturdays at 10.
