Dr S B Viers filed suit to remove his acre south of Indian Creek from Diller city limits. The Viers Patton watermelon patch was on the ground last summer. He seeks to shift the corporate boundary to the country for lower taxes and less policing by village authorities.
Reports from the hospital indicate Harry Patton is improving after surgery for stomach ulcers at Bryan Memorial in Lincoln. The operation removed a large portion of the stomach wall, leaving about one third normal size, and since the condition was non cancerous, recovery is expected.
The M E church Dorcas Society invites all to a bazaar in the church basement on Saturday December 3. Booths open at 2 PM and supper at 5:30 PM with prices 25 cents for items and 15 cents for supper. Committee requests attendance.
The Record invites readers to join the Red Cross with a one dollar or more membership. Call the Record office soon to be listed as the roll will go to headquarters in a few days.
Fifteen pieces of Diller real estate will be offered next Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock at the south door of the county courthouse. Bids will be cash and the property goes to the highest bidder at private sale.

A Sunday 7:30 p.m. crash at the Jansen viaduct involved Lee Nuckolls driving a car that left the approach east side after glare from an oncoming vehicle. Six people were injured, including Mr. and Mrs. Nuckolls and two grandchildren, with Nuckolls badly hurt and Mrs. Nuckolls nursing broken ribs. The car rolled down the embankment. bystanders from Fairbury helped as rescuers flipped the wrecked vehicle back onto its wheels.
The Diller school closes Thursday and Friday November 24th and 25th for Thanksgiving. Teachers plan to spend the break at various homes including Diller Lincoln Loomis Fairbury Salem and Reynolds with several staying in town.
Geo. A. Skultery, county attorney, was in town Wednesday to inspect the property to be sold at the tax sale next Tuesday.
Mr. A. Mayborn purchases a late model Chevrolet sedan signaling a private vehicle acquisition. The transaction confirms his ongoing interest in modern automotive purchases.
Friends gathered at Mr and Mrs Vint Logans home last Wednesday in Diller to honor the newly weds Harold Logan and Dorothy Wiedauer. The evening featured star checkers gifts ice cream and cake with well wishers including Mr and Mrs Billi Novotov Earl Riddie Hermano Schoen Henry Wiemers Willis Clark Herman Koch Mildred Koch and Marian Diller.
Federal Writers' Project researchers note that German Russian settlers near Sutton in the 1880s lived in adobe houses. Bricks were sun dried with clay and straw, appearing simple yet remained cool in summer and warm in winter. A hollow partition stove used smoke outlets in the roof. Fuel such as straw or corn stalks burned in a cavity to heat the bricks evenly.
Lutheran ladies announce a food sale to be held at the Farmers store Saturday afternoon and evening. Proceeds support church activities and community charity.
Six towns participated in the county one act play contest at Fairbury High School. Reynolds earned superior for Light while Plymouth placed excellent with The Forgotten Man. Diller finished excellent with Pink and Patches. Endicott Good performed in The Reefer Man. Daykin and Steele City earned average for Cloudburst and Strange Road. Medals for best acting went to Carolyn Clark of Diller and Leland Shoesbotham of Reynolds. Diller’s mixed chorus sang between acts.
The Zion Lutheran Walther League of Ellis Nebraska presents a comedy drama titled It Can Happen at 8 o clock in the church basement on Friday and Sunday December 2 and 4. The plot centers on preventing grandpa Miller from living with the Stone family as a maid shows sympathy and is greatly rewarded.
Mrs. Fred DeBoer died at University Hospital in Omaha last Wednesday night. Funeral services were held at St. Pauls Lutheran Church Friday afternoon November 18 at two o clock. Rev Goemel of Lanham delivered the sermon. Burial followed in Prairie Home Cemetery. Harold Nuckolls funeral service.
Beatrice store Mercer B Walker Dry Goods, once Van Arsdale Company, has been purchased by the Brown McDonald chain. The home owned store now passes into the system.
The Christian church at Fairbury will be re dedicated next Sunday November 27 after an extensive remodeling program. Services were held last Sunday in the church for the first time since remodeling began.
Mr and Mrs S C Hutchinson returned early in the week from a visit with relatives in Iowa and Missouri.
Nine Nebraska counties each receive 27.40 from Ak-Sar-Ben race meet revenue. J B Rossiter reports $25,891.20 total checks mailed. Nationwide distribution funds agri cultural or livestock premiums at county fairs or 4 H shows. All nineteen counties now qualify by hosting fairs or 4 H events.
Silver Jubilee Patrons of the Diller post office confused Gretchen the postmaster by a store window display. Postmasters celebrate 25 years since parcel post began in 1913. Parcel post eases rural deliveries as rural carriers bring packages to farmers’ doors across the nation.
Rex Green and Scott Miller, Diller's regular rural mail carriers, were laid up for repairs this week. Substituting on their routes were H. H. Green and Wm. Green, respectively.
Mrs Henry Wolters of Plymouth visited Friday evening and Saturday with Mrs Frerichs and other friends in this vicinity. She came Friday to attend Mrs Fred DeBoer's funeral.
Fred DeBoer left Fairbury and will reside with his daughter Mrs. Lavere Junker in Reynolds, where he plans to establish his future home.
