First Thanksgiving At the Orphanage at Diller
The first Thanksgiving Day at the orphanage in Diller passed quietly with no guests. Superintendent Lester W. Schmadeka, matron Epper son, and five boys Robert Dean George Ball Craig Keith and Jackie Baker shared fried chicken mashed potatoes gravy creamed peas pumpkin pie and Jello with whipped cream. Last Chance to Cut Back Taxes Interest This December

In 1891 the Nebraska Exhibition Train toured 47 stops across Iowa Illinois Indiana Ohio and Pennsylvania. The display featured prize grains fruits and vegetables from nineteen counties with a 185 pound squash and 12 to 14 inch corn ears. A mascot ragged boy from Peoria joined the party and was adopted by Nebraskans when the train returned to Omaha.
