Aging brothers visit, then home burns near Steele City
Two elderly brothers aged 90 and 87, John Reents and Reent Reents, traveled to town last Saturday for a shave. They had stayed a week with relatives. John Reents owns a farm east of Steele City and had been visiting at the Joffan Fanders home. Late that night John Reents’ residence east of Steele City burned during his visit.

Night School At High School Draws Crowded Attendance
Night school was held at the high school building last Thursday evening beginning at 7 30. One and a half hours were spent in classes with patrons seeing students in active work. Attendance was smaller than prior years due to competing events. A program followed in the assembly room and patrons then toured rooms viewing class displays and meeting teachers.

George C. Arnold is Laid to Rest After Long Life of Service
George C Arnold born February 18 1864 in Busch Württemberg Germany died November 14 1938 at his Harbine home aged 74 years 8 months 26 days from a heart attack. Emigrating to America in 1882 he lived in Elgin Illinois and Hanover Kansas before settling in Diller Lanham and Harbine. Thirteen children survived him along with eleven grandchildren and a wide circle of relatives and church members. Services were held at the Harbine home and Hope Reformed Church with interment in the local cemetery beside his wife.

Forest Hartzell born February 9 1866 in Dixon Illinois died after a long illness at Diller Nebraska. He worked as a butcher then in livestock handling before retiring due to health. He married Jeanette Bixby July 5 1892 who died April 20 1923. Survived by two brothers L A Hartzell Dixon and Guy Hartzell Chicago. Funeral held Wednesday at Mber funeral home with Rev officiating. Interment Prairie Home cemetery beside his wife. Floral tributes noted.

Mrs Fred DeBoer Mre of Fairbury has been bed confined in an Omaha hospital and underwent an operation last week. She faces another procedure for gall stones when able. Her husband Fred DeBoer is in poor health with heart disease and there is a report of a death in Onnhe as the paper goes to press.

Alvin C. Shively born February 8 1869 in Hardin County Kentucky died October 28 1988 at age 69 in Butler Michigan after heart failure. He moved from Diller Nebraska to Butler Iowa then to Butler Missouri and lived a Christian life. He left a sister Mrs F S Adams of Butler a niece Mrs Vera Gray and her infant son ce Gray of Kansas City and several step nieces. Burial was in Butler.
