George T. Eick, aged about 97, died Thursday morning after a brief illness. He passed peacefully at home as family gathered, with funeral services set for Saturday at 2:30 PM at the Congregational church.
Mrs. Lottie Furrow of Reno Nevada informed relatives Sunday of Wallace Furrow 17 son of Mrs. Furrow who died from pneumonia after an appendix operation. Wallace entered the CCC camp and was operated on Monday November 8 and died Thursday November 11. He was born at Diller and moved with his mother to Nevada in July 1936.
A group of ladies at the library last Thursday afternoon organized a reading club. Beek member buys a book from a chosen list reviews it for the group and presents it to the library inviting interested readers to join Booklover's Club.
The Fifty Year Column notes the Record’s first printing in Diller fifty years ago. The author laments no celebration as Mr. Pearce would be here to mark the event.
Special Robert Diller of Diller Nebraska, a University of Chicago Law School student, was awarded a graduate fellowship here. He is engaged in thesis work toward a J. D. degree.

Mari Roelfs operates the Blue Bird Beauty Shop at Ben Hall's home with machine permanente priced at 61 76 to 250 and 500 dollars. The shop opens daily except Sundays and Mondays.

Night school night session at district 70 High School drew 350 to 400 patrons and showed classes, art, and craft work. Music directed by Miss Grant and dramatic arts led by teachers complemented the program. Superintendent Linkey praised the support and urged more visits from parents and patrons.
Jefferson County nears December 1 as 4593 of 8000 driver licenses are issued. John Hartigan's service station near the courthouse reports rising applications with 428 last week and 147 on Saturday and 132 on Monday. Hartigan and crew will hand over to the state on December 1 awaiting new handling details. Locals are helpful and friendly.
Fred Clark urges farmers in the vicinity to grow hybrid corn, claiming it solves local corn problems. An exhibit at this office presents a hybrid sample yielding 120.8 bushels per acre at 80 pounds husked, as Clark ready to discuss corn with interested listeners.
Red Cross supplies were left at the Record office by Mr JL Thornton of Fairbury who toured county communities to boost the Jefferson county chapter. Diler's quota is 40 members. reporters seek those willing to join without solicitation. Reports are to be made after Thanksgiving Day.
Mr and Mrs Roy Rob and Irene Beckwith traveled from Omaha last Saturday to visit Mrs H H Beckwith and others in Diller. They joined relatives for an evening meal in Humboldt and returned home Monday forenoon with plans noted for further family gatherings.
Mrs Hall Hudson was taken to Odell General Hospital last week Tuesday November 9 where she submitted to an operation. She is reported to be getting along as well as could be expected.
Reports from Jansen depict a spate of shootings linked to drinking spots and a dance hall. Jasper Wheatcraft shot Guy Hellyer in two wounds with a jail and a $500 bond set after a preliminary hearing in Judge Bees court. The shooting stemmed from local tensions as outsiders gather in town and residents vow to curb excesses.
Rev Pyche showing improvement from a serious stomach ulcer condition after clinic visit Tuesday evening. He lies under Dr Ainley care and enjoys cheerful mood amid support from parishioners and the Men’s Class at the Sunday School in Diller.
Mr and Mrs Roy Mathias accompanied a cousin Sam Nelson of Detroit to the Rocky mountains for a few days last week. They stayed with Mrs Mary Bowser in Jefferson Colorado and reported cold weather with snow on the ground.
Mr and Mrs Christ Malchow traveled to Beatrice on Wednesday to see Mrs Clara Chadwell of Monte Vista Colorado sister of Mrs Malchow who had been visiting relatives in Minnesota.
The Jefferson County drivers exam station at Fairbury Court House will be open for three months from September 1 to December 1, 1987. Applicants must obtain their licenses during this period. The station is located just south of the County Treasurer’s office and hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
St Pauls Luther League presented a three act comedy drama Johnny Grows Up at the Opera House to a full audience similar to the prior week. The Stevens family faces illness and financial reverses as Johnny helps with clever schemes earning back funds and a windfall, aided by friend Ralph Johnson.
Farmers planning Clarke McNary windbreak plantings should order early to secure desired varieties. Trees are provided to those unable to obtain planting stock elsewhere. Mailing and packing will be the only charges. The Farm Bureau urges cooperators to plant fewer trees but give them better care in Jefferson County.
Mrs Fouts left today for Seward to attend the Junior Class play with her granddaughter in the cast. Mr and Mrs James Bowes arrived from Kansas City to accompany her and were bound for the Iowa Nebraska game in Lincoln this Saturday.
John Pulec bid farewell to friends on Monday then set course for Fullerton Nebraska where he will continue the blacksmith trade. He plans to join his stepson Lester Straw in a gas and oil business partnership.
Lorin Alsworth and his mother Mrs Jennie Alsworth of Beatrice spent Sunday in Diller as guests at the home of Mrs Warthen.
Paleontologists from the University of Nebraska museum report the discovery of Titanotylpus Nebraska nsis the world’s largest camel in the western Nebraska sand hills near Red Cloud. A lower jaw led to a cache of bones forming a herd, with mounting planned next summer by museum experts.
Rev Frank Mills of Lincoln former Diller Methodist pastor appears in the Lincoln Journal Star for coverage of a non denominational conference held at Union Church College View Lincoln. Thirty delegates expected with Lee Pearson of Shenandoah among guests Mills helped build Union Church and has served as its pastor for years.
Mary Lee Hested daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E J Hested and Max A Denney of Fairbury plan a Thanksgiving Day ceremony. Denney is with the Hested company and is connected to Fairbury.
The child of Clifford Gartan living on the Chas Frank farm 70 miles north of Diller was seriously injured when a car door opened and the child fell out while returning to fetch another pupil from school. The youth was taken to Luther Hospital in Beatrice with no current condition report available.
