Early Morning Fire Destroys Hank Frisbie Restaurant
A gasoline stove explosion at Hank Frisbie's restaurant in R W Green's Main Street building sparked a fast spreading fire. Fire crews saved the post office area but the restaurant, stock, and furniture were nearly wiped out. The town library upstairs suffered heavy smoke and water damage. insurance was insufficient for full loss. This was the building's second blaze in under a year.

Death of Carl Franzen in Diller area
The body of Carl Franzen, 53, a longtime Diller resident, was found Sunday evening. A revolver with an empty chamber lay in his hand and a note requested Diller undertakers handle burial in Steele City cemetery. Deputy Sheriff Clark saw the scene. no inquest was held. Funeral services were conducted at the Steele City church with local attendees.

After 14 years Scott Miller and family revisited Camp Funston once home to the 314th Sanitary Train and the 89th Division. The former barracks are razed though paths and ruins remain, with a stone monument to the soldiers. The family also toured Fort Riley, noting its sturdy native stone buildings and housing for thousands of cavalry.
