Navy Man Leaves On USS Helena For Guantanamo

A New York call informs the Miller family in Harbine Nebr that their son Scott Miller sails October 22 aboard the heavy cruiser USS Helena bound for Guantanamo Cuba. He expects to return to Boston by late December and joined Navy Day ceremonies in New York as President Truman commissioned the carrier F D Roosevelt with a large review. Meanwhile Hope Reformed Church Youth Fellowship in Harbine presents Aunt Besse Beats The Band, a three act comedy at the Harbine Schoolhouse November 16 at 8:00 pm. Cast includes Verneal Schnuelle Dorothea Pinckert Dorothy Pingel Richard Schnuelle Dale Engelman Orville Krebs Robert Pingel Phyllis Bernhardt Lorene Runke directs. Admission 15 and 35 seats. All are invited.

Discharged Servicemen Return Home in Postwar News

A group of servicemen from Nebraska towns return from duty with honors. Cpl Harold Henrichs of Newport Virginia arrives stateside for discharge, wife to meet him in Leavenworth. Sgt Elmer Mathew discharged after over three years with 9th Armored in Europe. Pfc Duane Clerk, discharged Oct 22, plans to enter drafting school after earning Purple Heart and campaign medals. Arnold Henrichs, Army Medical Corps, discharged at Fort Leavenworth, served in Aleutians and Arctic regions. Delmar Champ, discharged at Fort Logan after service from Feb 1942 to May 1948, saw New Guinea and Pacific theater with First Cavalry. John Forbes and Eleanor Stahl visit. Forbes discharged and plans Chicago home.

Diller School News Plans and Activities Highlight November Week

Vacation activities noted include National Education Week observance and a Tuesday two day event. The Sie Clubs and Mixed Chorus are directed by Miss Weigel and a one act contest play by Miss Thorngate will be shown. Immortal Sergeant was screened for high school students. Athletic gear such as sweat shirts and T shirts for the Boys Group has arrived and school sweaters are due around December 1.
