Memorial Day Wreath Making at Legion Hall

Women of the community are invited to help make Memorial Day wreaths this Saturday at 2 p.m. at the legion hall. Materials will be supplied for participants.

Fairbury High School seniors plan tonight’s commencement as Esther Young and Eva Green return from a 3000 mile southern trip. Three people suffer minor injuries in a Monday car truck crash two miles east of Ellis when a Beatrice driver and Orville Duis collide on highway No 3.

Omaha Couple Honored by Diller Relatives

Miss Vivian Thompson daughter of True Thompson and her fiancé Richard Fehrman of Omaha were honored at a miscellaneous shower and basket dinner in Diller on May 21. Attendees included relatives from Omaha Percival Fairbury Beatrice Odell and Diller families. The couple’s wedding date is set for June 24.

James Retired From Union Pacific After 65 Years

James, a longtime Union Pacific foreman at Edgar and previously at Steele City Nebraska, retires on March 31 1950 at age 65 after 26 year merit record for safety. He will be replaced by Lloyd Marks and plans a California visit with family before moving housing arrangements.

Seatt le death of E S Hayes former resident

Mrs. Ina Hill reports the death of her uncle E S Ed Hayes who died Saturday in Seattle Washington at nearly eighty. Survived by two daughters in Seattle two sons Neal and Amar Stark Hayes a brother of the late Mrs Mollie Ogg. Hayes and wife Ethel moved from a farm south of town to Washington about forty years ago.

Cars Collide Near Boulder Dam South Of Town

A head on crash Thursday night near Boulder Dam left two 1938 Chevrolets severely damaged but produced no injuries among all occupants. Ray Benz, driving his father’s car, and James Mapel, both in their late teens, were the drivers. In Benz’s car were his mother, sisters, a brother, and Evelyn Engler of Diller. Mapel’s party included Melvin and Bernard Peters of Jansen.

Hap Filley runs a clock and watch repair shop from his home three blocks west of the bank after learning the trade from an English London watchmaker. Word reached relatives that Will Bell died Wednesday at his home. he is survived by his children and wife, with his eldest brother being Bud Bell and Mrs Orpha Waggoner. A first free show of the season was held Saturday night at the Diller opera house, forced indoors by bad weather. Future free shows will be in the city park when weather is good and in the opera house when not. School honors basketball and girls volleyball teams

H S superintendent and coach honor the basketball team and the girls volleyball team at an ice cream party Saturday night. Hosts Mr Frazee and Mr Morrow praised the teams for a fine season. The basketball squad was runner up in the Pioneer Conference and fourth in the district tournament. the girls volleyball team won the Pioneer Conference tournament.

Two Men Held on Petty Larceny Charge in Beatrice Case

D Engler of Harbine and an unnamed companion were picked up by Gage county officers for Jefferson county officials on a petty larceny charge. Money was reportedly taken from a bill fold in Plymouth, linking the pair to the incident. Guilia's Beauty Shop will operate part time after May 20 through June 1.
