S. S. at 10. Congregational meeting Sunday after Sunday school to consider a call for a student pastor to do supply work for the summer months at St. Paul’s near Diller under Superintendent W. H. Plager.
The Congregational church led by Rev. Robert A Helms lists Sunday School at 100 clock and 11 a m services with Mrs. Lea Calkins and Mrs. Allie Eick as leaders for the evening. Agnes Crane Wright of Steele City will give a program with special music and an offering. The May Missionary meeting date is moved to May 26 at Mrs Line’s home. Last week Mrs. Lea Calkins hosted the Ladies Keystone class for a Kensington afternoon.
The Methodist Episcopal Church notes a month of strong Sunday school attendance and a Mother's Day service well received. Mrs. Nancy Robertson was the oldest mother present and Mrs. Ray Eick the youngest, each given a bouquet. The article urges regular attendance and active participation.
Miss Alma Schoen visits Beatrice Wednesday afternoon. A class of seven will graduate from Endicott schools next Thursday night.
Roy Roelfs sustained a painfully sore eye after a piece of steel entered during Sunday activities. Medical staff treated the eye and advised care to prevent further irritation.
We wish to thank everyone who helped us in any way following the accident Sunday. Mr and Mrs George Freitag.
Mr and Mrs Brannin and Mrs Beachy of Falls City visited Mrs Bran nins grandparents Mr and Mrs John Carico on Saturday. Mrs Beachy is a sister of Mrs Carico. The group returned to their home Sunday afternoon.
A large amount of corn was found in the Diller vicinity this week. Bill Bond an oil man is noted as one of the sick in the community Monday. Henry Pingles' young son, previously ill, is reported much better now. A son weighing 9 pounds was born to Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Rahe near Harbine on May 16.
Dean Barber and Lynn Cully state university students spent Mother's Day with Diller relatives. Roy Mansfield was summoned to Beatrice last week to undertake carpenter work.
Mrs Pet Palmberg is recovering after an operation at a Beatrice hospital. The Kunecke child was briefly ill earlier in the week. Eilert Hullman suffered a painful fall in the yard. The Diller willow wielders beat Social Dale 9 to 0 on the local diamond last Sunday.
A son was born on the 16th to Mr. and Mrs. Emil De Boer near Diller. Diller teachers from several districts face school closures this week including Dist. 60 Bethel, Dist. 4 Gladys Lottman, Dist. 74 Pearl Sparks, and Dist. 89 Lake Bristol. Village sites plan planting evergreen trees in parks, at city hall, and a pumping station, actions praised.
John Garrels and his family from Odell visited Sunday at the home of his brother Harvey Garrels, sharing a family gathering and companionship.
Mrs A J Hitt Mrs John Sailing and their son Johnny Jr of Odell spent Tuesday afternoon with friends in Diller.
The Diller band has accepted an invitation to perform at a church picnic. The event will be held at the southern church eight miles north of Diller on June 5th.
Dr and Mrs Cecil Ellis of Chester visit parents Dr Claude Ellis and Mrs Dora Wohlfarth. Mrs Ellis stays longer. Charley Barber reportedly lost his glasses and his car slid off a gravel road north of town after a shower.
Mr and Mrs Sam Stefford of near Steele City and Mr and Mrs Will Flash of Lincoln visited Mr and Mrs Isaac Saylor who were glad to have their friends dine with them.
Mrs. H. A. Bell hosts guests including Mr. and Mrs. Raleigh Bell and Sue A Bell and Mr. and Mrs. Benford Bell in Lincoln Nebraska for Mother’s Day. The party includes a little daughter and the gathering reflects a family tribute to mothers.
Miss Nellie Green of Lincoln visited the Diller family on Saturday and stayed through Sunday for the baccalaureate services at the Congregational church where her sister Bonnie is a graduate.
Charles Wood son of D J of Fairbury died in an automobile accident in Council Bluffs last week Thursday. Wood had worked in this office for a short time several years ago.
Mr Wood announces a violin class via the Ingalsbe Wood Studio with a skilled instructor to begin due to many inquiries. If demand remains high, rates will be reduced and enrollment opened wide.
County residents selected for forest ration conservation service must report for examination at Beatrice courthouse on a date to be announced. Those passing the exam will receive free government transportation to Fort Crook.
Mrs I R Andrews and Mrs Scott Miller attended a mothers and daughters banquet hosted by the Presbyterian church ladies at Steele City Friday evening last week. Over a hundred mothers and daughters were present and a fine time was reported.
A week of Mother's Day services, graduations, church receptions, and multiple performances kept Diller residents busy. The Collier company drew praise for its show Double Crossed with a strong supporting comedy lineup in last Wednesday’s program. Next Wednesday promises Thieving Bankers as the evening’s main feature.
Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Hiatt and children Lois and Dicky of Lincoln and Mrs. Cleve Hiatt and daughter Orphan Lee of Hebron visited their mother and grandmother Mrs. S. M. Hughes at her home on Saturday and Sunday.
W A Snyder was chosen mayor at the town board reorganization with C E Waggoner as clerk H H Green as treasurer C E Green as marshal and street commissioner J C Blauser as water commissioner and the mayor as chairman Dr O Diehl and marshal named the board of health.
The Congregational church baccalaureate service Sunday morning drew a large crowd with eighteen graduates seated in reserved spaces. A boys quartet, girls sextet, and a violin clarinet duet by Mrs. Schindler and Miss Rachel Diller provided music. Rev Helmson’s class sermon What is Life offered food for thought for the class and others. Miss Flossie Raymond led the pro and recessional.
Clarence Hiatt and family J M Hiatt and family and Mr and Mrs Frank Cully with others from Diller attended a pleasant surprise dinner for Mrs C J Hiatt in Beatrice on Mother's day.
Mesdames O. J. Mayborn W. A. Anderson Scott A. Miller and son Richard joined the 33th annual N O U field trip at Fairbury last Saturday. Cars to Rose Creek Bower near woods and swamps left at 7 am and returned at noon. A breakfast followed at the Catholic school. Noon check found and identified 108 bird species water and land. Attendees hope for a similar trip for the Diller Woman's Club next year.
