Congregational Church Schedules Mother's Day Service

Rev. Robert A Helms leads the congregational program with Sunday School at 10 o clock and cradle roll at 10 15. The Mother's Day service directed by Mrs Harry Thompson will be given during the morning church hour. The baccalaureate service will be held at 8 p m.

Mother's Day Sunday School Plans at Local Methodist Church

Mrs L M Cavett superintends a 10 A M Sunday School with a special Mother's Day program. The oldest and youngest mother will receive honors. Dorcas class Kensington meets Thursday May 18 in the church basement. Charley Green takes over as street commissioner and village marshal. Lucille Sparks visited Lincoln area relatives.

Mr and Mrs Cal Waggoner attend the Lincoln funeral Saturday for Mrs A C Fish wife of a commercial salesman who makes Diller frequently. Mrs Fish formerly lived in Fairbury and was an old friend of Mrs Waggoner.

Rev Merle E Fish delivers 15 minute talk in Los Angeles

Relatives and friends listened on KFI in Los Angeles yesterday morning as Rev. Merle E Fish of Los Angeles gave a 15 minute inspirational talk. The event was sponsored by the Federation of Los Angeles churches. Fish is a graduate of the Diller schools and the husband of Sylva Miller Fish a former Diller girl.

Diller Gets Two From Pleasant Precinct Named on Roosevelt Forest Project

About 87 men aged 18 to 25 applied in Fairbury for six months work on the Roosevelt reforestation project. Jefferson county’s quota of 32 was set by the committee. From Pleasant precinct Dil ler, Merle Johnson, Erwin Fanders were selected with Ira Casper as an alternate. They will be notified to report for examination at recruiting stations. Some work is hoped to be done in Nebraska.

Picnic Outing with Friends Includes Diller Ties

Mr and Mrs Lloyd Hurst with children Betty and Donald and editor accompanied by Geo B Pearce an inmate of Masonic Home Plattsmouth took a picnic last Saturday. A detour near Plattsmouth moved the group east and they drove to Peru for supper with Mr and Mrs Joseph Albright and daughter Rachael former neighbors from Diller. Rachael taught in Diller schools eight years resigning for ill health and has had operations since though improving slowly which pleases her many Diller friends.

Beatrice Social Notes Mention Local Visits and Accident

W. E. Mudge transacted business and visited relatives in Beatrice Tuesday. Mrs. Eleanor Steffensmeyer of Lincoln visits at Dr. O. C. Diehl’s home. Mrs. T. B. Highly of Diller fell stairs breaking her hip and is confined to bed in a Beatrice hospital.

Patton and Overturf Seek Kans marriage license

Mr. Hubert Patton aged 25 of Harbine and Miss Clara Overturf 26 of Edgar secured a marriage license in Maryville Kansas last week. Patton is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Patton, formerly of Diller, and Overturf teaches in Diller schools.

Farmer narrowly escapes gored by enraged bull near Ellis

Pearl Nickeson of Ellis county was riding a cow herd when a bull charged his horse and gored it fatally. He escaped by vaulting a fence and the bull was later sold to buyers who loaded it onto a truck for market with difficulty.

Mr. Arthur Rhodes, brother-in-law of Dr. O C Diehl, was thrown from a horse three miles west of Beat Rice Monday afternoon. He sustained ruptured intestine and other injuries and underwent surgery Tuesday.

Mr and Mrs S C Moser accompanied by her brother Bert Etchison of Pawnee City travel to Wichita Kansas where Mr Moser will submit to an operation for an inward goiter sometime next week.

N R C Meeting At Vieths Home Votes Fruit and Vegetables

The N R C met at Mrs Arthur Vieths home with eleven members three children and five visitors. A business meeting approved sending fruit and vegetables to the Omaha children's home. The afternoon featured rock games with Mrs Leonard Richardson winning high and Mrs Arthur Kunecke second. The next meeting is set for May 17 at Mrs Orville Richardson's home.

Legislature Approves Tax Payment Deferral for Farmers

The retiring legislature passed a measure deferring real estate tax payments from May 1 to July 1 without interest. The move aims to help farmers secure better grain prices before taxes are due.

J N C Club Gossip and New Member at Mrs Champ Home

Members of the J N C club met at the home of Mrs Geo Champ on Wednesday. Guest Mrs Hultz joined the club during the business meeting. Contests were won by Mrs Newt Hays and Mrs Rudolph Hubka. Refreshments were served by Mrs Champ with assistance. The next meeting will be at Mrs McKinley Bowen on May 17.
