A Marble tournament for sixth grade and younger and a Kite contest are planned at Jansen April Std starting 2:00 PM with prizes from local merchants. A separate Ping Pong tourney at Jansen on April 71st at 7:00 PM offers merit prizes. entries due by April 20. John Greider, federal recreational director, oversees the events.
Lloyd Calander from Durango Colorado visited his parents Mr and Mrs M Calander. He and his mother drove to Manhattan Kansas to meet his wife who had been visiting her parents in Miami Florida. Mrs Calander had spent 30 days in Miami. They returned to Colorado.
Leonard E Roelfs came from Omaha early last Friday morning and stayed until Sunday visiting his parents Mr and Mrs Roy Roelfs and other relatives. He has been attending school in electric welding since last fall and is nearly ready to begin active work on a salary basis.
Mrs Eloise Young and her daughter Nancy arrived from Seward at the week's start to spend several weeks with Eloise’s father J Smith Diller. Mr Young will join on weekends.
A report to Diller states Iris Hammel Strawhacker was granted a divorce from Lester Strawhacker last week. Her maiden name is restored. The couple were married on September 17, 1937.
Mrs Carrie Sparks comes back from Lincoln where she spent the winter. She plans to visit with her children around town before opening her house here.
Mr and Mrs John Huttenmeyer hosted last Sunday with the former's mother and two Beatrice sisters along with Mr and Mrs Guy Cooper of Humboldt visiting.
Rev. Lo J Wolff leads St. Pauls Evangelical Lutheran Church in plans to celebrate the church founding fifty years ago. Dale Friday Lucille Findling and Gerald Friday visited from Iowa Saturday evening and stayed through Sunday to see relatives and friends.
Dr and Mrs S B Viers traveled to Minneapolis Duncan last Sunday to attend their aunt’s funeral and returned to Diller that evening.
The Lutheran church invites worshipers to revisit Christ’s suffering death and resurrection for you. Lenten services are announced with Wednesday 8 and Good Friday services at 10 A.M.
The Diller school music contest will be larger than ever with a dense schedule across morning afternoon and evening sessions. Judges include Mrs. Thomas of Lincoln and students like Carolyn Clark and Freddie Drexler earned excellent ratings at a district declamatory contest. Six week exams begin next week ahead of spring break April 6 7.
Funeral services for William Lambert were held in Endicott last Sunday. An elderly settler, he died at age 87 and was uncle to Mrs. D. V. Fandera. Relatives from Lincoln College View and Guid oek attended, with family members sharing a meal at the Fanders home before the service.
A. H. Bert Howard died at his daughter Verna Stewart’s home in Los Angeles last Saturday forenoon. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at Nuckolls Funeral Home in Fairbury, with burial beside his wife in Fairbury Cemetery. Services set for 2 p.m.
Congressman Curtis notes Congress stalls on major bills with only Roosevelt armament action advancing. He cites Social Security, Wagner Act, Wage Hour, currency devaluation, FHA, Florida Ship Canal as stalled items while the Cherry Blossom Festival draws visitors. Roosevelt proclaims Cancer Control Month and Ohio as Mother of Presidents. A Georgia congressman et al clash with a lobbyist over relief funds. The Capitol braces for spring visitors and tours.
Mrs. Ernest Gorr known as Eileen Green of Bridgeport spent the week end with her parents in this city and they took her to Lincoln on Monday to catch a train home.
Mr and Mrs Paul S Beckwith and son Billy arrive at Mrs Jennie Line’s home then travel to Steele City and Diller for visits. Paul Beckwith says Fairway Stores will open a new Webster City outlet while noting existing Ames and Boone locations. He organized and leads the company as president.
The Firemen’s annual show drew its usual crowd only partly as bad weather and other factors reduced attendance. Postponements and club activities limited turnout while the show date moved one day ahead of WPA pay day leaving many children and some parents at home. Despite lower turnout the event paid its expenses, meeting the promoters’ satisfaction.
Clark Fisher left Monday for Cody Wyoming where he is well acquainted and expects to find work. He spent the winter there with his father George Fisher often staying at his home.
The pictures planned for Tuesday April 4 at 8 p m have been postponed due to Mr Howell’s illness.
Mr and Mrs Lloyd Hurst and their son Donald were Sunday evening visitors at the Cavett home.
A base ball meeting is scheduled for Monday night April 3 at Allen's Store. Community players and supporters are invited to discuss team matters and upcoming games.
The sectional declamatory contest at Diller last Friday disappointed many as judges faulted the scoring. Observers noted a university judge gave weak guidance while a Daykin event judge from a high school provided clear knowledge of public speech.
Odell hosts afternoon and night sessions on Wednesday April 12 1939 while Steele City offers an afternoon event on Friday April 14 1989. Diller hosts a night session on Friday April 14 1939. Beatrice Power Co promotes affordable electric service.
Local lumber and coal dealer C. L. Geer in Diller Nebraska advertises a line of paints oils and varnishes at very reasonable prices inviting customers to visit and have their paint jobs figured.
Mrs Nancy Robertson begins a house re shingling project with work planned on the home. Housing improvement activity focuses on replacing worn shingles and restoring exterior appearance.
