Eugene Diller, victim at a Bi Lo Grocery meat market in Fairbury, was struck by a flipping knife after a large cut of meat landed on the block. The knife entered the body near the appendix but no organs were injured, and he is expected to recover barring complications.
Dr Aubrey Diller arrives today to spend Easter vacation with his father J Smith Diller. He will give a talk on his travels abroad at 8 o clock Friday evening April 7 at the Congregational church. Diller teaches Greek and Latin at the University of Indiana while continuing research in Ancient History.
Tuesday election results show Anderson Clauson and Geer top village ballot with 123 votes cast. School election produced three winners Cavett Smith Schmadeke while several candidates received minor totals.
Kenneth Young of Seward spent the weekend with his wife and daughter at the home of Mrs. Youngs father J Smith Diller. The Youngs from Concordia Kansas joined relatives Sunday for the day at the Diller home.
The public is invited to attend a program at Rock Creek church on Sunday evening April 9 at 8 oclock. Misses Myrna Gage and Anna Fast will perform with the children of The Grace of Home of Henderson.
Mr C B Ingalsbe of Marysville Kansas and his son the bandmaster visited Diller for a music contest and to touch up piano tunings at the school house last Friday morning.

W S Filley attended a Burling ton traffic meeting at Wy more last Sunday. About 60 station agents were present from the Wymore division.
Wm. Carico and his wife of Lincoln spent the weekend with his parents Mr. and Mrs. John Carico at this place.
Herman Stahl relocated to the Wrigley residence at Thos Price place in the latter part of last week.
The Easter message describes The Lord Is Risen as a deeper life experience beyond outward spring symbols. It urges believers to seek God through Christ amid modern life distractions and to observe this sacred anniversary of Christ's Resurrection.
The Beatrice Power Company announces a cooking demonstration on April 14 at city hall with Miss Margaret Harvey in charge. General Electric ranges and other appliances will be displayed. Demonstrations will also be held in Liberty on April 13, Barneston on April 13, and Steele City on April 14.
Mrs. W. S. Filley and Mrs. Grace Combs received word by telephone of the death of their brother Alfred R. Hollenberger of Omaha on March 26. He was an automobile painter and trimmer who learned the carriage painters trade under his father George Hollenberger in the horse and buggy era.

Diller led with 60 points in the Friday music contest as eleven superiors were awarded. Daykin 37, Steele City 34, Harbine 31, Endicott 27, Plymouth 27, Reynolds 16. about 250 contestants took part with 2 to 8 numbers sung or played. The traveling trophy requires two consecutive victories to keep it. Diller previously held it in 1938 and 39 with Steele City and Kay? leading performers praised.
Sick and ailing William Unger’s left thumb torn by a nail in the barn door while chores last Sunday is improving after prompt tetanus antitoxin. Abcess on William Wrigley’s neck draining has him returning to school Monday. A baby girl, 74 pounds at birth, born to Mr and Mrs Claude Nider on April 2, 1939. Mrs Ben Roelfs home from Fairbury hospital recovering from major surgery. Lawrence Caldwell recently had an illness, but the best man wins. Mrs John Henrichs ill with flu and cared for at Mrs Glenn Long’s. Mrs Cora Colman went to Odell hospital for aggravated flu. Mr C O Smith ill with flu but improving. Mrs W E Anderson ill with flu for some time. Mrs Foreman Fielder confined to bed by illness.
The 7th and 8th grade exams will be held Thursday and Friday, April 13 and 14. Eighth graders attend both days. seventh graders Friday only. Location remains as before with Fairbury exams in the Methodist church basement. A state bulletin clarifies eligibility for a high school tuition statement for students finishing 8th grade in an accredited district.
At the last board of education meeting the policy was adopted limiting the senior class trip to no more than sixty five miles one way. The board indicated further action would follow for current planning.
Mr and Mrs Mahlon Wolken and Rev L J Wolff traveled to Waterville Kansas on Monday for evergreens to use at the church property south of town. Mrs Wolken found a dormant rep tile on her shovel which revived in a glass jar. The snake is young about a half inch thick and 12 inches long. Some say it is a blacksnake. He is described as a beauty and may be found on the editor's desk. How does one feed a baby snake.

A donor commits to paying rent for the junior and senior banquet, with venues alternating between the two churches to host the event.
Normal training examinations will be held at the high school on Saturday April 15. Try-outs for the senior play are scheduled before the faculty this week.
Asa Q. Richardson died at his home Tuesday April 4 1989 after years of declining health. Born February 17 1872 in Fayette County Pennsylvania he lived in Nebraska since youth and leaves his wife Lida seven children two sisters eleven grandchildren and many friends. Funeral services were held at the Congregational church with Rev Pyche officiating and burial at Tecumseh Cemetery.
Mrs. Margaret Rathburn 74 died at her home in Steele on Wednesday afternoon April 5. She was the mother of Mrs. Ray Cassell and Mrs. Payne of Steele City. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at the Presbyterian church in Steele City with Rev. Fillinger officiating. Burial will be in Odell cemetery. Waggoner Bros. in charge.
Mrs. Catherine Hole eighty five died at her Odell home Monday morning. The body was moved to Waggoner Bros funeral home. Funeral service Thursday at the Methodist church in Odell with Rev Lenker of Weeping Water officiating. Burial followed in Odell cemetery.
Lester Schmadeke, superintendent of Protestant Johans Home, spent the weekend with his parents in the western part of the state.
