Wiemers Real Estate transfers divide Seede Wiemers estate

Heirs of the late Seede Wiemers divide property among 6 children. Coroia Wiemers and sister Lillian Gostolow gain the home place two and a half miles west of Diller. Henry Wiemers keeps the farm four miles west, Al Wiemers takes the farm two miles west, and Mr and Mrs Harry Abrends gain the old Sam Green place. Orvald Wiemers and Mabie Wiemers sell their interests to the estate.

Athletic Banquet Set to Honor Diller Athletes

The Diller athletic banquet will honor its athletes at a Tuesday April 7 event. Rex Green was elected banquet chairman after discussions held last Wednesday. A Father and Son fundraising plan is planned with basketball players to receive special honors. Frances Clark, R. W. Green and Scott Miller lead ticket sales, while local businessmen serve on the publicity committee.

Hughes Sells Diller Grocery to Sister Pauline Smith

Rupert Hughes sells his Diller grocery store to his sister Pauline Smith who has worked there since opening about a year ago. Smith will run the business at the same location with Glenn Long as clerk. Hughes plans to retire from mercantile work and may return to farming next year.

Miss Lucile Barnett Undergoes Appendectomy

Miss Lucile Barnett, son of Mrs Diller, underwent an appendectomy at Odell hospital Wednesday forenoon. A telephone call from her mother reports she is getting along nicely. Barnett is a senior at Diller high school.

County Judge Honors Carico Fiftieth Anniversary

County Judge E R Bee traveled from Fairbury to congratulate Mr and Mrs John Carico on their fiftieth wedding anniversary and presented a bouquet. He chatted with locals in Diller with special note of Chas Waggoner.

Gravel dumped on old fill ignites local surprise

Frank Crinklaw surprised residents Tuesday afternoon by dumping a load of gravel on the fill across the bridge south of town. The county officials had delayed the project for more than two years, but progress has finally begun.

Lincoln man Edward Reu ben Ward dies after Prairie Home travel

The body of 66 year old Edward Reu ben Ward of Lincoln Nebraska was found in the Prairie Home area after a trip that also included Beeeees to Diller. The deceased’s wife is Anna Wright of Lincoln.

Pioneer Music Contest At Diller Opera House Today

The Pioneer Music Contest gathers 160 Jefferson county students from Daykin Endicott Reynolds Steele City and Diller for solos groups and choirs. Diller enters 16 events with Band Orchestra Glee and small groups while Fairbury attends as performers. Lois McNitt of Washington Kansas will judge with W A Schindler directing.

Wheat Benefit Checks Begin Arriving In Fairbury

The Farm Bureau office in Fairbury received the first wheat benefit payment checks since the Supreme Court invalidated the AAA. On March 16, 34 checks totaling 874.45 dollars were delivered in the initial consignment with more payments expected regularly.

Mrs Jennie Rieher Visits Naomi Chapter In Diller

Mrs Jennie Rieher supervisor for district No 7 of Red Cloud spent Tuesday March 17 visiting Naomi Chapter at Diller. She held a school of instruction both afternoon and evening and a 6:30 covered dish luncheon followed by an enjoyable night. Accompanying her was Mrs Jennie Bloom and both stayed overnight with Mrs S B Viers from Red Cloud.

Firemen's Show A Big Success at Diller Opera House

The Volunteer Fire Department sponsored a three act comedy The Man In The Green Shirt at the Diller opera house last Saturday night. Local cast delivered entertaining performances with vivid characterizations from Wig Green Pauline Patton Wendell Fanders Russell McCreight Cleo Green Irene Hill and others. The audience filled the house as laughter and enthusiasm marked the evening.

Entertaining Child Program Delights Local Audience

Mrs. Sinkey directed a refined entertainment praised for style and dignity. Miss Raymond’s first and second graders performed a between act specialty and a numerically titled A Trip to Bookland with Mother Goose rhymes. The community orchestra led by Mrs. Schindler performed for half an hour before the curtain.

Jansen to Celebrate Golden Jubilee Parade Planned

Jansen will mark its Golden Jubilee with events on July 29 and 30. The celebration, led by the Jansen American Legion post and local businessmen, includes a Thursday July 30 parade with invited neighboring towns and floats. The band plans to perform in the parade to settle past gratitude.

Monetha Newman of York crowned national 4H Holstein champion for 1935 after earlier state wins. She began a dairy project in 1930 using a Holstein calf and now owns eleven Holsteins. Sales returns from her club have increased over six years.

Pleasant Leads Jefferson County Farm Bureau Membership Drive

Pleasant Precinct heads the Jefferson County Farm Bureau drive with 50 members while Lincoln Precinct has 46 and Cub Creek 36. All precincts except one attended a county court room meeting Saturday afternoon where members agreed a new program to replace AAA and imminent benefit checks will boost total membership to sustain the farm program.
