Congressman Binderup states that Emergency Crop and Feed Loans for 1936, authorized by the President's February 28 Executive Order, will be available within ten days. Loans to be issued through the same channels as prior years with regulations issued.
Next Friday March 20 the Diller high school hosts the annual music contest in the opera house. Jefferson county musicians compete in vocal and instrumental numbers by individuals and groups with Miss McNitt of Washington Kansas serving as judge.
Mr and Mrs Leslie Green wood of Fairbury spent Saturday night with Mr and Mrs J A Pickard in Diller accompanied by his sister Miss Cal and friend Mr Lee Nash all from Fairbury The couple were married at the Green wood home in Fairbury and traveled to Diller to avoid the charivari tradition under way nearby
J. Smith Diller and his daughter Eloise visited Lincoln on Sunday to see two other daughters, Rachel a University of Nebraska student, and Marion convalescing at St Elizabeth's hospital. They enjoyed a drive in their new Pontiac and Marion is reported to be much improved in health.
Mr and Mrs Orval Richardson relocated their household effects to Beatrice this week and will soon move to Plattsmouth where Orval will be employed. Harry Duce of Beatrice bought the lease on the Cully farm and will move onto the property.
Mr. and Mrs. Scott Miller announce the marriage of Adeline Marilyn Fish to William H. Bloom. The ceremony occurred Saturday evening February 29 1936 at the home of the bride’s parents, Merle E. Fish and Sylvia Miller, on Dalton Avenue in Los Angeles California.
At a church board meeting last Monday night the Diller Methodist church resolved to plant trees around the property to replace those destroyed by the drought of 1934. Dr. Viers will supervise the project.
Today marks the final day to apply for the Steele City fourth class postmaster position. Manning oversees the office and the annual salary is 1067 dollars. The examination will be held in Fairbury.
Farm bureau leaders from every Jefferson county precinct will meet at the agricultural agent's office next Saturday afternoon to present a summarized membership report. Preliminary reports show precinct signups ranging from 10 to 50 members, as the group plans to complete preparations for the new farm program.
Adam Gretzinger bought a saddle horse at a Frisbie sale and rode it from his neighbor’s farm toward a WPA road project. The horse bolted, plunging and remounting before throwing him. He suffered a fractured collar bone severe shoulder injuries and other injuries. He claims he was crucified bound to a wooden cross to keep the arm in place.
James Copeland came back to Beatrice last Saturday after spending weeks in Miami Florida under sunny skies. He notes he would not want to settle permanently where insects are plentiful and land sits low near sea level. On the return trip he visited Chickamauga Missionary Ridge and Lookout Mountain near Chattanooga Tennessee where his father the late Thos Copeland fought with General Thomas against Bragg. He recalls much of the artillery from those battles is preserved.
The district where the old schoolhouse burned recently and where a new building is under consideration lies west of Diller, about three miles west of Fairbury and south of the county farm, contrary to some papers' claims.
Mr. Hamel of Tecumseh picked up his daughter Iris and her friend Miss Hanson on Friday evening. The two young women are teachers at the Diller school.

Mrs. Eugene Diller, who had been ill last week, is reported to be much improved, with her condition stabilizing and signs of recovery noted by her physicians.
Mrs. Emily Jane Niday Catlett of Diller died at home at 5 p m on March 8. Born December 21 1855 in Marion Ohio, she lived in Wayne County Iowa before 1882 marriage to Samuel Catlett. Funeral held at home in Diller with Rev L J Wolff, body sent to Atwood Kansas for interment beside her husband. She leaves three sisters and two brothers.
Mrs. Hester J. Crane widow of the late Wm Crane died at her home near Steele City on March 8 1936 aged 86 years 4 months 11 days. She leaves six children four of whom predeceased her. two surviving Ollie Reitzel of Steve and Agnes Crane Wright who cared for her. Funeral services were held at the home Tuesday at 1 p m and at the Presbyterian church in City with interment in Steele City cemetery. Rev Fillinger in charge. Waggoner Brothers funeral service.
Miss Rachel Viers spent the weekend at her parents’ home the first trip home since Christmas. Snow was deep near DuBoise where she teaches. She left for work Sunday evening with her parents Mr. and Mrs R. W. Green accompanying them.
The Dorcas class of Kensington Methodist Sunday school will hold a session Thursday evening March 19 in the church basement. The committee encourages strong attendance and invites all to attend.
Eleanor Lucile Henrichs and Stanley G Lea were married at the bride’s mother's home in Fairbury on March 6 1936 at 2 p m in the presence of immediate relatives Rev Harry F Huntington officiated. The couple plans a southern trip and will reside in the Queen apartments in Fairbury.
Clella Vaughn sues Durand Vaughn for divorce citing cruelty non support and desertion seeking restoration of maiden name Clella Sailing. Married in 1930 with no children. Vaughn employed as manager for Beatrice Power and Light at Odell left for parts unknown in January leaving unsettled state of affairs.
In 1935 the Navy Recruiting Station Omaha processed 4009 young men seeking enlistment. Of these, 334 made first enlistments and 42 reenlisted. Six hundred fifty six were chosen for training in the Service Trade Schools. The average age was 19.5 and the average school grade completed was 11.3.
Mrs J Pulec and Mrs F Johnson hosted the Women’s club meeting in March highlighting handcraft displays. Members shared antique textiles, china, rugs, embroidery and culinary arts with notes on art and grandmothers handiwork. several articles dated before 1900 attracted attention.
