Saint Pauls Ev Lutheran near Diller schedules Sunday school at 10. English service with Holy Communion and installation of new officers on March 19 at 2 PM conducted by Rev A Heinz. Free will offering to cover expenses. All welcome.
Mrs L M Cavett supervised the Sunday School session at 10 A M with the Methodist Episcopal Church posting the time and leadership details for the service.
Rev. Robert A Helms presides with W A Snyder superintendent. Sunday School starts at 10 oclock and preaching at 11 am. Missionary meeting at Mrs Mollie Riddle home postponed to next Friday. Evening service planned with ladies quartet in charge.
The Big Stick is in use again with Wednesday night shows in Diller and nightly bonfires as residents tidy yards. Local funds help lift spirits while Mr and Mrs Harry Close Fern Gerald and Dale host visiting relatives at Deitt and L M Cavett visit Fairbury with daughter Mrs Alvin Hirsch and family Tuesday.

Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Cavett welcomed Hanson and Miss Over Turf as dinner guests Sunday. A one o'clock meal was served and enjoyed, followed by an afternoon of music and conversation.
March 17 marks St Patrick day with some planting and potato work noted. Mrs Harvey Garrela and children visit relatives in Manhattan Kansas Miss Alice line. Diller resident reelected as a Fairbury School teacher. Mr and Mrs C W Hiatt and family dined with L A Vejraska in Odell. Mrs George Reng recovered from a paralytic stroke and was in town yesterday.
Mr. M. Callander sustained a broken rib and other injuries when he fell down the cellarway at his north town home a few days ago.
Mrs Clarence Hiatt hosted a Friday bridge foursome with Mrs Manning taking high score. Guests included Mechhames Lee Earhart Hubert Manning of Steele City and C E Rice of Odell.
Mildred Mayborn, longtime pipe organist in Lincoln, has returned from aiding the reopening of the Diller State Bank. In Wilbur twelve residents were jailed Tuesday for opposing a sheriff’s foreclosure sale. the farm, 100 acres, sold for 11 dollars per acre. Cornbelt Lumber Co. advertises triple strength Carbolene at 50 cents per gallon with container.
The jig saw puzzle craze hits Diller with puzzles on sale in several stores and strong demand. Men women and children are drawn to fitting pieces into a picture, finding it more engaging than solitaire and spreading to homes offices and business houses.
Mrs. C. E. Caldwell and her son William travel through Beatrice while enroute home from a visit with Edward Caldwell and wife in Denver Colorado. They reside near Garden City Kansas and formerly lived in Beatria. They plan a stop in Diller to visit relatives before returning home as Mr. Caldwell continues to recover his health.
The Weston County Gazette notes that businesses that do not advertise miss growth. It asserts buyers are educated to read ads and that advertising creates a psychological pull toward stores that advertise.
Mr and Mrs Gal Waggoner and Mr and Mrs C E Waggoner visited Beat rice hospital this week for their sister Mrs Heagy Hemminger who is receiving treatment after a car crash near Beatrice last Sunday causing a broken shoulder and other injuries.
A fair sized crowd saw a Wednesday night program at the opera house. The scheduled play was postponed to next week and replaced by a substitute praised as very good. Two former players were discharged and Mr Collier promised new talent for next week's show titled The Humbug or Oh What a Girl.
Lira M Hurst of Diller advertises taking over the McCon non dealer contract for Jefferson County. The firm, a 40 year old supplier of household products including extracts spices soaps toilet articles remedies stock and poultry preparations, will begin calling on the trade immediately. Banking resumed as the Diller State Bank opened on a restricted basis under federal regulations. Withdrawals of gold or gold certificates are barred and deposits may be limited to ten percent of old balances. New accounts have been opened and general business appears to move toward normal after the holiday.
In a village primary held last Friday night at city hall nominees were named for village trustees two year terms S C Moser and C L Geer. For school trustees four were nominated R Milow J Smith Diller B riers and Francis Clark with two to be elected. Mr and Mrs Scott A Miller received a telegram Sunday morning announcing the deaths of their sisters Adeline Kennedy Sylvia Fish Golda McKinley and Jessie Spillios all in the Los Angeles earthquake area.
A remittance note from Mr and Mrs W A Cherry of Valentine Nebraska shares best wishes with old friends from the Diller area. They recount 18 inches of snow in the latest storm and report their family news including grandson Hugh Pearce planning to farm with Mr Cherry this year. Additionally A A Eick family learns their three children and Archie Trout escaped unharmed from the Los Angeles earthquake scene. Wilbur Eick was in the 12th story of the Seaboard Bank building when windows shattered.
The Auburn Herald reports a two week series of Union Vester services in Auburn with three city churches, including Avenue Methodist. Hubert Filley performed the vocal solo Trusting, a Diller native and State Teachers College Peru student, to a well received reception. Rev. Velte and his son Rev. Willis Velte, visiting pastor from Brock Nebr, were involved.
A surprise party Sunday evening March 12 honored Mr Geo Champ on his birthday. Relatives and friends attended including Miss Eva Champ a niece Mr Wm Champ brother of Odell Mr and Mrs Chas Hilder and children Ralph and Dorothy Mr and Mrs Mc Bowen and Gerald Mr and Mrs Ex W Harris and Betty Bernice and Kenneth. A late 4 delicious lunch was served and guests wished Mr Champ many more happy birthdays.
