Daughter of W S Diller Killed in Auto Collision

Joyce Diller 18 daughter of Dr and Mrs W S Diller of Salina Kansas was killed Tuesday in a head on collision near Kansas City at highways 10 and 50. She was a KU freshman in Lawrence. One other passenger died and the car’s driver is in critical condition. Funeral plans not set.

Birthdays for Mrs Richardson W A Snyder noted

Mrs L Richardson and W A Snyder celebrated birthdays this week with Snyder age 85. Snyder suffered bruises and a sprained back after a fall on icy sidewalks last Friday but was able to be out of bed and downtown Wednesday. Harbine Community Meeting drew good attendance with Mrs William Sandman presiding. Norman Sixel and Harry Albers arranged the program showcasing travel photos from Germany England France and Switzerland.

E A Jordening is remodeling the Diller Grocery building to move the stock into a portion of the north side. Shelving and displays will be added for new arrangements and a separate room has been created on the footprint. Schulz and Sandaian are handling carpentry work.

Fire Damages Scheele Home Tuesday Afternoon

Firefighters rushed to the Scheele residence Tuesday afternoon as flames struck the west wing and roof start from a defective flu. The upper neat wing suffered the greatest damage while smoke and plaster harmed furniture of Mr and Mrs LeRoy Bentley. The couple planned a birthday party for their daughter Carol when the fire was spotted. Insurance covered the losses and spectators saw the scene after the truck arrived.

Jefferson County Soil Conservation Election Planned

Jefferson County Soil Conservation District will hold supervisors election between March 23 and voting sites in Diller Fairbury and surrounding areas. Candidates include Wo Diller Steele City Henry Hare Mire Albert Schweer Cy Steffen. Flu hits Harbine area as local union meets

The flu outbreak claims more victims including Dr Viers and the Amos couple. Harbine Farmers Union local No. 1361 met at the Harbine schoolhouse with Clair M Wolfe of the Nebraska Union Farmer as principal speaker. A musical program and card games followed the business meeting. Delegates reports to the state convention were heard. committee members included Mrs Otto Hobein Mrs Ivan Beckman and Ms John Wrigley.

Délores Hubka daughter of Mrs Anna Shiubka and Haley son of Mrs Nora Haley at the school earned honor roll status and senior year scholastic distinction. Mr and Mrs W I Filley returned home from Billings Montana after visiting their daughter Mrs Wells Andrews and family. Funeral services for Harry C Sailing were held at Vance funeral home Odell with burial in Odell cemetery. he died at 68.
