Birth A Daughter at Odell Hospital March Twelfth

A daughter was born March 12 to Mr and Mrs Arnold Bartele at Odell hospital. A new roof was then put on Henry Scheele residence damaged by fire last week. Ernest Scholtz managed the job with supplies from Ditler Lumber Company. Darlene Novotny, a teacher in Hastirge, spent the weekend visiting her parents Mr and Mrs Wilt Novotny. Farenwald painted new signs on the corner grocery windows. The store name Fowler Grocery was replaced by Ditler Grocery. Local 1326 Farmers Union met at Ellis School Taraday night with safety talks and a lunch of coffee and pie. Mrs Hignah Freitag celebrated her 92nd birthday Tuesday, living with her son George and family.

Fire siren timing flaws endanger Beatrice town fire response

Minutes cost money as fires spread quickly and wooden buildings burn in minutes. The town should sound the siren immediately when a fire is reported rather than delaying for operator calls. The practice of using a telephone operator to alert firemen delays notification and risks greater damage. Mr and Mrs George Loth and family visited Beatrice on Saturday.

Junior College Choir Concert At Diller Schoolhouse

The Fairbury Junior College choir presented a Wednesday morning concert at the Diller school house. Members Herman Harding Bill Rapp and Verneal Fasse are in the choir which is making appearances in 22 towns this spring.

New License Plate System to Start Next Year

A new plate numbering plan will roll out next year with A-1 to A-999 across counties except Douglas and Lancaster where different rules apply. Plates will be black on white, and manufacturing cost should be lower and readability improved.

County Spell April 1 Spelling Contest Held

The annus spelling contest is set for Saturday at the Junior high assembly per G T Boone county superintendent. Two divisions include seventh and eighth graders versus fifth and sixth graders with younger pupils admitted. A 50 word preliminary test precedes rounds of 20 words to determine winners. Ruth Wallace chairs the event.

Security representative to visit Fairbury courthouse

Elmer Leke of the Lincoln Social Security Administration will hold a session at the Fairbury Court House at 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday March 29 to inform attendees about Old Age and Survivors Insurance rights and obligations. Angus Breeders Sale Set for Hebron with 48 Cattle

The South Central Nebraska Rogue Breeders association sale will be held at Hebron on April 14. Twelve consignors, led by Harold Logan as manager, will bring 48 head of cattle. A pre sale banquet is planned at a Hebron hotel. K C Fouts from the University will run a demonstration and judge the morning cattle show alongside FFA and 4H clubs. Harold Logan and Pete Wenz have consignments.
