Diller’s 44th annual Homecoming Picnic August 11-12 will feature a Parade of the Nations. The universe theme invites participation from local groups and many nations, with the United States depicted in detail and motion picture coverage planned. Mrs. Miller chairs the Picnic Program Committee.
Farmers report wheat in bad shape due to black rust and lodging. Binders are more numerous as growers rush to save the crop with early yields seen around 12 bushels per acre. Oats perform poorly but straw value remains, corn grows well and combines may work if rains hold. Next week should bring clearer results.
Encephalomyelitis, also called blind staggers brain fever or sleeping sickness, is rising among horses and mules. Four new cases were reported in the area over the last two days. Vaccination appears to be the most effective treatment.

Mrs Fouste was Meg Leaper formerly of Diller, daughter of Mr and Mrs Albert Leaper.
Ray M. Larkins of Ellis becomes Gage county’s first beneficiary of a Federal Tenant Loan. He purchased a 160 acre farm four miles north of Pickrell from D. Baumfolk for $10,000 with immediate possession. Baumfolk’s sale bills were posted last week. Kagana s comment notes the loan as a great benefit for him. The loan carries 3 percent interest with years to repay.
The Raymonds and Donna Jane of Lincoln visited relatives in Diller last week. H Green to fix up residence in west Lincoln for occupancy. Supt. Sinkey to occupy the house. A Loue traveled from Lincoln to Chicago New York and Havana Cuba by boat.
Mr and Mrs L H Wehling and son David returned home after a two and a half week stay in the Ozarks. They enjoyed the visit with the local Ozarkians. David had a birthday during the trip and was celebrated by the natives.
Allen's Cash Market announces a one day closure for Independence Day. The store will shut from opening until 10 A M Monday July 4 to observe the holiday. Local customers are advised to plan accordingly.
Bumper peach crop reported in the eastern area with heavy loads. In the Brownville vicinity trees are so laden that thinning may be necessary to protect the crop.
