Frank Garton's family on Steiner eighty miles east of town reported a large five foot bull snake in their cellar. After the snake was killed a missing kitten was found in the nest and cut from the snake by Mr Garton with a jackknife revealing a lump in the snake's body.
Mrs Mary Wright, in poor health, will leave Diller to live with her grandson Lloyd Wright and family in Emmet Idaho. She has packed belongings and stored them in rooms, rented the balance of her house to Mr and Mrs Marvie Headley, and is staying temporarily with Mr and Mrs George Specht where friends may visit.
Jake Lottman sold the first wheat at Diller this year. Delivered last Thursday to Black Bros. elevator the grain tested 50 pounds to the bushel and brought 51 cents. The yield ran about seventeen bushels per acre.
Frank Frisbie of Lincoln and Mrs John Greider left Diller Sunday evening by auto for Hereford Texas expecting to drive all night. They are visiting Mr and Mrs Bert Frisbie and the latter's sister for a week.
Homer Brunk traveled through Jefferson county on Tuesday forenoon in support of his bid for Clerk. He notes he dislikes hearing dogs bark in his sleep but enjoys meeting local voters during campaign travels.
Miss Gretchen Fanders departed for Denver by plane from Grand? DB as Mr and Mrs Henry accompanied travel notes.
Picnic committee reports securing several excellent free entertainment numbers for the event at Diller Ace 11th. The program promises lively acts and broad community appeal at this time.
Dr Diehl asserts a tomato vine bearing nineteen tomatoes and invites competitors to beat the count. The boast frames a light local horticultural stunt with playful competition.
Local ad announces permanent wave services at the Blue Bird Beauty Shop with price points from $1.00 to $3.00 and up to $450, calling for weekday operations and listing operator Marie Rolfe and telephone number 29.

Thirty six Jefferson county residents are among the 2,200 students in the University of Nebraska summer session. Fairbury leads with thirteen students, followed by Diller and Plymouth with five each, Steele City with four, Daykin Harbine and Powell with two each, and Helvey Jansen and Reynolds with one. Diller representa tives Grayce Myers L F Sinkey and Carl A Ludington are graduate students Sylvia I Sible Edna A Webling and Marie C Webling are freshman sophomore and junior in teachers college.
The county recreation picnic will be Sunday July 10 at Crystal Springs Fairbury with truck transport from Diller at noon. Costs 10c per person for transport and activities include kittenball supervised by county recreation leaders and swimming at 4 pm. Sixth graders and up may attend paying dimes to Jobo or Ruth by Friday July 8. rain postponement to July 17.
Western Nebraska harvest yields bumper wheat crops with trains pulling 70 to 96 cars daily. Locomotives haul 98 cars over Place hill east of ore as the Burlington Route sees a surge in freight movement.
Mr and Mrs Chas E Wer left Diller for Worthington Minnesota to spend the Fourth with the Habichts and Mr and Mrs Lynn Waggoner. They were accompanied by Mrs Robertson and Selah. They returned Tuesday noting the Worthington folks faring well. Tuesday was a hot driving day.
John Greider John Lamb and Harry Allen visited the Alexandria lake on the Fourth of July to fish but found the lake drained for repairs. Harry Allen reports catching some fine green frogs for supper.
Diller dominated the local game on the Plymouth field leading to a 17 to 8 final. Haddam Kaneas are set to visit Di next Sunday after an hour of play.
Frustrated growers report tougher harvests with small grain yields down from prior years. Farmers note limited progress and aging equipment as they struggle to bring in crops amid variable weather and high workload.
Louis J Sands a lifelong Odell resident recently living in thice drowned in the Blue River at Riverside Park Beate about 1 30 A M on July 1st while with family. His wife said he fell in after a brief swim and was seized by a cramp. His body was recovered about two o clock by volunteers about 60 feet downstream from the last sighting. He leaves a widow and four children Bil lie Jamie Lou Jacqueline Ray and Robert. Funeral services were held at the Odell Methodist church with interment in Odell cemetery.
Alonzo Specht died the evening of the Fourth after a half hour illness while working in the harvest at Wes Carmichael’s near Steele City. He collapsed from heart trouble and died about 7 30 pm. Funeral services were held today at the Congregational church in Diller at 2 pm with Rev. Pyche leading, burial in Diller cemetery. His wife, Mrs. Specht, passed away last November.
