Draft Registrants From Jefferson County To Camps
Nineteen will join Camp Funston and eighteen Fort Riley from a 63 name list. They will be called within five days after June 24. Walter Murray and Ray W Keen of Diller are named, along with Will Boettcher and John Albers who depart for the State University at Lincoln for two months of mechanical training.

W A Snyder received a letter from his son Earl Snyder who with other Diller boys has trained for several months at Camp Cody Deming New Mexico The letter was written en route from Camp Cody to Chicago and probably overseas mailed from Trent Missouri near the old Snyder home Other Diller boys in company with Earl were Everett Blauser Carl Tarnow and Elton Bugbee.

Obituary of John Wesley Mathias of Diller Nebraska
John Wesley Mathias born February 19 1855 in Pattensburg Illinois died June 13 1918 at his home near Diller Nebraska at age 63 years 3 months 4 days He came to Nebraska in 1872 and lived in Jefferson County He married Sophia Schroeder December 31 1891 and had three children Roy W Oscar L and Grace Fasnacht He joined the Evangelical Lutheran church in 1901 and the Modern Woodmen of America about 20 years ago The family moved to the present farm north of Diller in 1903 He was respected in the community and survived by his wife three children two grandchildren two sisters one brother and many friends Funeral services were held at the Methodists Episcopal church in Diller with Rev H W Wagner officiating and burial at Prairie Home Cemetery Re del Merrell Sargent Schroeder and thirty others from Hanover Kansas attended the funeral
