Mr. and Mrs. Max Habicht arrived Wednesday at noon from Colorado and will stay a few days with Diller relatives before returning to their home at Wessington Springs South Dakota.
Ballard reports a shipment of new hats trimmed and untrimmed at reduced prices and a large stock of new dishes ordered before a price rise. Sets can be made to suit buyers.
Attention M. W. of A. announces a special meeting for Saturday night June 29 to discuss important business. All members should attend. Clerk Raymond notes. D. RR. Kelley and daughter Mrs. Jennie Mills from Council Bluffs Iowa traveled to Fairbury Monday to buy a monument for the grave of E. Mills at Prairie Home cemetery.
Mrs. Addie Bell entertained at dinner Tuesday noon with guests Mr. and Mrs. C. L Wesqoust and family, Mr. and Mrs. A. Raymond and their daughter Donna Jane, and Miss Beulah Bell. The basket included a variety of seasonable dishes and all enjoyed the meal.

Beatrice residents sought two teams of farm horses, while in Diller Saturday C E Blauser from Beatrice shows interest. G C Blauser, employed at a Beatrice hardware store, stayed overnight near Diller and rode back to Beatrice on No 16, as the community notes weekend activity.
The community production Star Bright by Steele City talent for the Diller Red Cross fund was postponed from last night at the Diller opera house to Tuesday night July 2. Local attendees praise the performance and urge others to see it.
A partial notice notes a Lincoln Nebraska address at 612 Security Mutual Building with Dr J J Hompes forming a partnership. It mentions Mrs Dr Viers returning to Red Cloud after ten days with Lt S B Viers at Camp McArthur Texas and the doctor’s transfer to Camp Greenleaf Fort Oglethorpe Georgia for eight weeks training. Camp details include aviation field remount depot cantonment for about 30000.
The Nebraska state council of defense urges the sole use of English in schools and public communications during the war. The Diller Telephone Company adopts and extends the rule, asking all who can speak American to use only English on phones. Minor notes mention residents visiting Diller and a product ad for Victor chick food.
Arrangements are complete for a canning demonstration in the south room of the opera house block in Diller on Tuesday July 2. Miss Dickeson from the State University extension service will conduct the sessions at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. and discuss drying fruit and vegetables and food substitutes. The government opened a temporary employment office at Friesen's implement store in Fairbury under C. H. Davie to provide farmers with access to workers for any kind of job. There are no extra charges for service.
A message dated Wednesday announced the death by shooting of Ben Franzen, formerly of Diller and brother of Carl Franzen of this place, at Edgar Nebraska where he had lived for a time. Further details were not available at this writing.

A formal proclamation from President Wilson Governor Neville and Ward Burgess calls National War Savings Societies Day on June 28 1918. A meeting at the school house at 8 PM will organize one or more societies and urge loyal citizens to volunteer for war savings work led by Village Chairman R F Starr.
The county Council of Defense approved a resolution at its last week meeting in Fairbury endorsing the State Council's stance against the nonuse of the German language in public spaces or on telephones.
John Albers and Walter Murray from Fairbury join the Jefferson county quota for Camp Funston and Fort Riley. Merle Siebolt also heads to Fort Riley, part of the Gage county contingent from Beatrice.
The Epworth League devotional services will be discontinued during hot weather months. The pastor and Sunday school superintendent attended a meeting in Fairbury on war savings. Next Sunday morning service will be at Rock Creek, with Sunday school at the usual hour and plans for a war sayings society in the school. The evening service will be patriotic with the sermon on Ideal Americanism. Everyone is invited.
