The Diller Old Timers Club plans an August 13 and 14 picnic to celebrate Diller’s 50th village anniversary. Rex Green leads the program, W A Anderson handles secretary duties, and volunteers, including women, pledge to boost the event while wearing 40 year old clothes on day one.
St John’s Lutheran Church in Lanham will host the 45th annual convention of the German Evangelical Lutheran Synod of Nebraska next week. About 100 pastors and delegates are expected. On June 16 the St John’s Congregation marks its 50th anniversary.
Seven year old Gene Dale Sieford son of Mr and Mrs Ralph Sieford living east of Steele City suffered severe facial injuries when the family dog bit him. The dog was killed and its head sent to Lincoln for rabies testing. The dog had been considered safe around children.
The first outdoor union church service will be Sunday evening at the city park. Rev. Robert Drew will preach the sermon. In case of rain the service moves to the Methodist church.
Marguerite Velte of Auburn was elected president of the Young Peoples conference for the south west division of the Beatrice district of Methodist churches at a Tuesday meeting in Falls City Nebraska.
S. C. Moser sustained a badly bruised foot when a post fell on him while he and Harley Clark raised a floor using a jack screw under a post. They moved to safety but Moser could not escape the mishap.
Mrs. Esther Raymond of Lincoln underwent a major operation at a local hospital on Tuesday. She was on the operating table for two hours and is reported to be doing as well as could be expected.
Steele City hosts a community evening next Tuesday featuring the American Legion drum corps and a Beatrice male quartet plus a big kitten ball game to be played.
The Diller Band will give its first concert of the season Saturday night at the park starting at 8 15.

Carrie Sparks shows her son in law E W Atkinson who rose to fame in California trapshooting. The San Jose News reports he shot 100x100 in the diamond medal handicap at Del Monte, a first in state history. Atkinson, a commerce instructor at San Jose State College, began shooting last October and also scored 95 of 100 in singles.
The Jefferson County check-up on 19385 corn hog contract compliance will begin next week per a statement from the Agricultural Agent's office today. Local contract signers are urged to assist supervisors in land surveys and hog counts, bring account books with farm maps and hog sale records, keep sales slips, and separate feeder pigs from farmed stock to expedite benefit payments.
William Meyers two year old son of Mr and Mrs Wm Meyers Endicott fell backward into a tub of hot water Saturday and died the same evening at Odell hospital. Funeral services were held at Endicott Methodist church with Rev Malzhon officiating. The Williams sisters sang. Burial took place in Fairbury cemetery.
Deshler voters approved selling hard liquor by the glass in a 139 to 132 election held Tuesday. Deshler population exceeds 1,000. The Rusler notes a late arriving group of voters after polls closed could have changed the outcome.
A child mistook Vacation Bible School at Diller for school due to long recesses. He described the schedule as 15 hour recesses between brief talks about Jesus, highlighting a humorous misunderstanding of the program.

Shenandoah Iowa held its first annual flower show at the Armory over Saturday and Sunday sponsored by the city with nurseries from Shenandoah Clarinda Hamburg and others exhibiting roses peonies and other blooms. Visitors enjoyed tours of local gardens and nursery grounds with Earl May Henry Field Welch Lakes Mount Lawn and Interstate nurseries among exhibitors. The Rose Hill cemetery name reflects local floral pride and many homes boasted gardens as crowds filled the streets.
Diller C. E. Young folks host a Wednesday June 26 carnival in the Methodist church yard. An afternoon horseshoes tournament precedes an evening horror house and fortune teller. Fun and freaks attract men and boys to the event.

Brush, Colorado faced its first major flood as Beaver Creek rose sharply, inundating the south side with three to four feet of water and two feet in the north business district. The Great Western sugar factory and residences taped by flood suffered extensive damage, while farmers along the creek moved to safety. Beets and alfalfa fields were ruined or buried under mud, with hundreds of acres affected and stock losses reported.
