Grain Price Support Programs Announced by Agriculture Dept

The Agriculture Department announced interim and final grain loan rates for 1948 wheat and other crops. Interim rates at Omaha and Kansas City start at 2.20 with Jefferson County near 2.04. final rates will be 90 percent of parity. Loans may be used to support prices, with adjustments at delivery to the Commodity Credit Corporation.

John C. Herwig Former Diller Resident Dies

John C. Herwig 81 died last week at his Humboldt home after years of failing health. Born April 29 1867 in Dayton DO he moved to Diller in 1884 later operated a hardware store in Habell and Humboldt before selling to Frank J Pipal. He married Winnie Tristman of Diller and was a Presbyterian church member. Survived by his widow a sister Mrs G D Lewis Arcadia California. Additional relatives visited Mrs Barber and guests Hamilton area. no funeral details provided.

Loretta Wiemers Bride Of Kenneth Barber

Loretta Wiemers daughter of Mr and Mrs Woe Wiemers became the bride of Kenneth Barber son of Mr and Mrs Les Barber in the Presbyterian church at Fairbury. Jane Austin of Fairbury was maid of honor. The couple are on a brief wedding trip and will reside in Fairbury. Several local residents attended church events and activities this week including Boys State and Girls State preparations.

Doane College taps Gloria Miller into Cardinal Key

Glor ia Miller a sophomore at Doane College is tapped into the Cardinal Key National Honorary Women's Fraternity for scholarship leadership character and personality.
