Folkers Buy Maw’s Store and Rename Johns Place

Mr and Mrs John Folkers purchase Maw's store from Mr and Mrs Donald Maw and rename it Johns Place. Mrs Folkers will manage the store while John continues with the Burlington Railroad. The Maw couple plan to live in Diller and move on from the business.

Nebraska Rail Commission Hears Burling ton Line Discontinuation

The Nebraska Railway Commission held a two day hearing in Superior on Tuesday about Burlington trains Nos 14 and 15 between Table Rock and Mc Cook. The railroad seeks permission to discontinue operation citing losses while five officers testified for the company and others opposed the action. The case has tied up with a contempt threat and a recent return of the trains after a brief suspension.

Nine Attend FJC Summer Session at Fairbury

Diller represents Fairbury Junior College with nine students in the summer classes. Eight more enrolled overall, the largest group outside of Fairbury includes Elaine Champ Olivia Champ Alice Engleman Darlene Freitag Elizabeth Freitag Wilma Lange Mrs. Ralph Long Ray Renz.

Repairs and Modernization Planned in Jefferson County Homes

An estimated 462000 will be spent in repairing and modernizing non farm homes in Jefferson County in 1948. About 30 of every 100 Nebraska homes will be painted and heating equipment overhauled or replaced. Nine will be reroofed and eight will have plumbing repaired bathrooms tiled or showers installed, the Tile Council of America reports. Diller's baseball team opened the season losing 7 to 2 to Odell bury.

June Tea at Congre gational Church Draws Local Attendance

A June Tea on June 11 at the Congregational church attracted good attendance. After a brief business meeting the president welcomed guests and members. Program chair Willis Clark presented numbers by June Thompson soloists and a quartet including Darrel Renz Darrel Freitag Joyce Freitag Doris Renz and Mary Cully. Readings from the year book occurred and Mrs Mayborn reviewed Great is the Company. Ice cream water and ice tea were served during the refreshment hour.

Birthday Picnic Honors Mrs. Greider at Indian Creek

A Sunday picnic along Indian Creek celebrated Mrs. John Greider turning 64. The meal featured fried chicken ice cream and cake followed by a fishing session yielding 62 fish fried for supper. Attendees included Mr and Mrs John Greider Mrs Clara Greider and others from Beatrice.

Mrs A Snyder Celebrates 86th Birthday in Plymouth Party

Mrs A Snyder marked her 86th birthday on Tuesday with family visiting at her home. Attending were daughter Mrs Carl Sandman and granddaughter Elaine Snyder of Denver, who arrived Sunday, plus Mr and Mrs Eleasser of Plymouth, Mrs Sandman of Jansen, and Mr and Mrs A Haasche. Sisters Mrs Blasser and Mrs Haasche are Carl Sandman's sisters.

A farewell surprise party was held at the Weaver home last Saturday evening in honor of Mr and Mrs Bert Weaver and Donald.
