Flooding Inundates Diller as Indian Creek Bursts Banks

Heavy rains drove Indian Creek to flood levels reaching near railroad tracks on main street Sunday morning and overflowed the city park. Diller and surroundings saw damaged grain elevators, losses of wheat and fertilizer, washed railroad track sections, and many basements flooded. Cars and trucks faced water crossing and a late return to normal traffic as residents recount past floods.

Birthdays Honored at Tecumseh Picnic

The birthdays of Mrs. John Webling and Mrs. Dell Webling were celebrated Tuesday evening July 4 at the Dell Webbling home with a picnic supper. The honorees shared two birthday cakes and gifts, followed by a children led fireworks display. Guests included Roy Casper and family, Harold Cox and Cherie, Sarah Ege and Harlem Edge, and the John Webling family.

Garden Club to Meet at Fannie Eick Home July 14

July calendar notes a garden club meeting at 8 p m at Fannie Eicks home with slides of middle western flowers. Diller s annual picnic is set for August 17 18 with a fund drive this week for business men. A parade at 6 30 p m on the first day and radio entertainers on the final night highlight the program.

Diller Picnic Plans Highlight 70th Anniversary Parade

Diller prepares for the annual picnic with 34 days remaining. E H Jordening Roy Roelfs Bill Martin and Chester Hale lead planning for Aug 18 events. Topeka radio entertainers will perform and the Mid Century Parade of Songs honors decades from 1880 to 1950 with community floats and group entries.

Hollis Wolff Named Diller to Holmesville Elevator Manager

The O A Cooper Company appoints Hollis Wolff as manager of the Holmesville elevator replacing Josho Huttenmeyer who resigned after years in service. Dell employee 300 will be promoted to manage the Diller elevator. Remodeling of the Bend office began with Roy Geer overseeing work and carpenters Frank Johnson and Albert Fasnacht on site. Dr Ellis moved equipment to a south room for later move to Beatrice home. Arnold Rehm returned after two weeks in Odell hospital with kidney injuries and limited work capacity. Ruth Pickard and son Bill Bowers returned from a ten day trip to Paxton Denver and Estes Park.

Diller Girls Win Single Game Lead Over Barneston

Diller girls defeated Barneston 34 22 with six players including Janet Wathor Faye Krebs Shirley Wester Elaine Baemfalk leading at the plate. Shirley Wathor relieved in the sixth inning. Darlene Roelfs catcher. Two scheduled Diller softball games were postponed due to rain.

Jefferson County posts a complete filings list for county offices. Primary set for August 8 with candidates across county clerk treasurer assessor sheriff district court clerk and county attorney plus commissioners and legislature. Wheat loan rate stated at $2.07 a bushel with Kansas City Omaha and St Joseph terminal rate at $2.26.
