Diller Men Attend Wymore Rally for Transport Group

Sixteen Diller businessmen joined 100 attendees at a Wymore rally on January 21 to form a Southern Nebraska Transportation Association aimed at opposing daytime passenger trains on the Burlington line through Diller. Local organizers named county representatives and witnesses to testify at a February 17 Superior hearing.

Scott Miller, rural carrier, reports turning in three used tires just before gasoline rationing. One tire a 21 440 earned $2.75, the highest amount heard paid for such tires, while the other two brought 20 cents each in stamps.

Mrs Donoa Hiatt Rippeteau writes from Virie Grove Kentucky near Fort Knox that a dressed goose mailed from Diller Nebraska arrived in fine shape. It was served at a birthday dinner for Lt Rippeteau and enjoyed by Kentuckians unfamiliar with corn fed Nebraska goose. It was frozen and wrapped by Mrs Holle.

Arrested armed youth without violence in Nebraska pursuit

Chester Grabber a 27 year old farmer recently paroled from a state institution led a daylong chase across Gage Jefferson counties before surrendering at a relative in Diller. He carried a loaded revolver and about 200 rounds. two rifles were later recovered near a railroad track. Authorities described the incident as an insanity warrant case.

Obituary for Frank J. Andelt of Dorchester Nebraska

Frank J. Andelt born January 13 1901 on a Dorchester area farm died January 12 1943 at Wahoo Nebraska. He married Beulah Thompson in 1927 and she survives with two daughters Beverly and Mary aged 11. He also leaves four sisters Mrs George Kobout Mrs Henry Cerny Mrs Fred Schleis and Mrs Carl Jensen. He was a local businessman and a longtime volunteer firefighter and member of Masonic and Odd Fellow lodges. He spent most of his life near Dorchester with six years in Hastings and last year in defense work.

Former county commissioner W. L. Woods and wife plan to relocate from a farm southwest of Diller to Fairbury in February. Private Clarence Hullman stationed at Yuma

Pvt. Clarence Hullman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hullman of Diller, has been stationed at Yuma Arizona since 1942 and serves as night dispatcher at the motor pool. He reports he enjoys the work and climate and notes his camp is a new development at Yuma with his current posting since the start of the year. He is brother of Mrs. Fred Diekhoff of Beatrice.

Mr Wom Ginthar came home from University hospital in Omaha after a two month bed treatment. He is reported to be much improved and resting well since the weekend discharge.
