Mrs Mary Fasnacht aged 80 died at her daughter’s home southeast of town at 5 AM Wednesday after a cerebral hemorrhage and pneumonia. The body was sent to Waggoner Bros funeral home. Funeral services will be Saturday at 1 30 PM at the family home and 2 PM at the Congregational church in Diller.
The county agricultural organization will move from the court and jury rooms to the attorney's rooms in the courthouse since the new county attorney will not use his offices. The apartments will be divided to fit the needs of the organization, giving Mr. Andreas a private office not available before.
Mrs Mary Backes 23 wife of Carl Backes of Steele City died of pneumonia at a Fairbury hospital at 4 AM Wednesday. Her body was taken to Waggoner Bros funeral home in Diller and later to Steele City for a 2 PM Friday funeral at the Presbyterian church.
Representative Cone of Valley introduces a bill to require a glass of beer to be at least 10 ounces with measurement starting below the foam. He says the country needs a good wholesome 5 cent beer.
Reports describe armor-plate concrete dug-outs under new London buildings built to resist explosives and gas. The piece notes skepticism about world peace and a focus on self preservation as Britain faces ongoing danger.
Porter's bill to ban spiking near-beer with bootleg alcohol dies in committee and on the floor. The measure is opposed not by the spiking issue but by a preference for near-beer over 3-2 beverages among many voters.
Reports say ten states review bills to establish unicameral legislatures modeled after Nebraska. Delaware Georgia Oklahoma Wisconsin Wyoming Minnesota Missouri Kansas Arkansas Iowa have measures filed.
Record of births and deaths kept by Mr. Callander shows six births and seven deaths in Diller during 1934. Births include four males and two females while deaths comprise three males and four females.

Fritz Miller and Hoag Diller of Wi Bros. haul Fruehauf fridge truck from the Kansas area to St. Louis with beer, then pick up butters in Columbus, Nebraska for Boston. In Boston they plan to load fresh fish for Omaha Safeway stores meat department manager Paul Beckwith oversees. The drivers credit careful, safe driving for their accident free record.
Mrs. Cinda Burkett 81 died early Saturday in Beatrice hospital after a Christmas day fall at her daughter’s home. She and her late husband lived near Lanham Nebraska for over fifty years before moving to Beatrice eight years ago. Surviving children include Mrs. Hamersham Mrs. George Mayborn Wallace Cologne and Ray Burkett. Funeral at First Christian church with Rev. B Fouts officiating. Interment at Odell.
Wild animal trainer Clyde Beatty suffered cuts and fractured ribs after a newly imported African lion named Sampson charged him during a training session at Rochester New York. Beatty used a straight backed chair as a shield and fought off the beast while attendants subdued it and clear the arena.
George Skultety, newly elected county attorney, will not occupy his courthouse office. He has joined attorney John Hartigan in partnership. The firm will operate from Hartigan’s longtime office over the First National Bank. Hartigan has practiced in Fairbury for forty years.
The Ladies Aid Society sponsors a one cent sale at the Methodist church basement on February 12 Lincoln's birthday. Proceeds support church activities.

A Sunday night fire devastated four Lanham business blocks with Farmers Store led by manager Wm Wehling. Firefighters from Wymore stopped spread to nearby properties while the town awaited rebuilding plans. Losses include Farmers Store stock and building, Cash Store, Wieden’s Tavern and other shops with totals around twenty thousand dollars. Insurance covered some buildings but Ostendorf’s and Eden’s properties faced no coverage for losses. A rebuilding effort is anticipated as the town recovers.
Jefferson county voters will see eight enumerators chosen last week to conduct the federal farm census. Charles H. Haller of Lincoln selected one enumerator per two precincts from applications approved by the county Democratic central committee. Enumerators will collect detailed farm data while keeping information confidential. a farm is any land of three acres or more yielding $250 or more annually. Enumerators listed include Mervin Carston for Cub Creek and Rock Creek, William G. Sandman for Fairbury 5 and Pleasant precincts, Fred Kyle for Harbine Endicott and Newton precincts, and others in Steele City.
Scientists prepare for a partial solar eclipse Sunday with fifty five percent sun obscured at the peak. The moon begins crossing the sun at 9:00 a.m. central star time and finishes by 11:20 a.m.
Local committee announces start of corn hog contract applications at Fairbury courthouse on February 4 with sign up days across precincts. A preparatory school for aides was held January 28. crowd urged to bring account books for new farm records and to attend a county meeting February 2 at 1 30 p m for contract provisions briefing.
Mayor Snyder reports a letter from Senator Frank Wells noting a bill by Wells and Representative Schoenrock to build a highway through Diller connecting Highway 3 south to Highway 3 north. Only the north segment has state approval. south of Diller remains needed. Surveyors work as grading equipment and living cars move in. weather permitting, activity may proceed. The PWF project from the Gage county line to Fairbury is unrelated.
Milk wagon crews from Behrend run their Pontiac up a hill near the schoolhouse. They left the car to deliver bottles and found it missing on return, discovering it at the hill’s bottom with front end damaged and several milk bottles broken after apparently trying to climb a tree.
The Omaha Bee announces a vast Sunday comics section featuring fifty six pages in full color. It bills itself as the largest comic assortment offered by any Midwestern newspaper, promising a wide variety for readers each Sunday.
Nebraska corn hog producers prepare to sign application blanks to vote in the 1935 annual meeting. Landlords may vote with tenants. Appraisals and listing sheets follow, with contracts signed after figures are approved by the state board.
Lutheran basketball team defeats Congregationalists for the second time this season on the local high school court. First half ended 7 to 13, second half 23 to 8. Mex Hill led the losers with the lone field goals. Next Saturday the Methodists and Lutherans meet to decide first place.
