Diller High School groups sponsor a minstrel show at the high school gym on February 25 at 7 30 PM. The Good Neighbors Club presents a program with named characters, solo songs, a tap dance act, and a skit. Admission is 5 and 10 cents.

Mrs Ray Lamb, longtime superintendent of the Methodist Sunday School, has shown some improvement after weeks of illness from flu and facial and eye poisoning. Her illness caused a relapse and her absence has been keenly felt by the Sunday school.

Last Day for 1940 License Warning Notices
Word from Fairbury states February 20 is the final day the state highway patrol will issue warnings for 1940 license holders. After today, offenders may be arrested for license violations.

High Wind Breaks Light Wires In Diller
High winds ripped through Diller last Thursday breaking street lighting wires in two spots near Dick Starling’s residence and north of the Hartzel building. The 2300 volt line sparked across telephone wires and ground, damaging electric clocks radios and the 32 strand cable. No injuries occurred though several were frightened by sparking phones and Corky Patton’s dog narrowly escaped harm in a ditch. The Record office phone service was also out all day Friday.

Last Sermon Next Sunday at Diller Congregational Church
Rev H H Pyche will deliver his last sermon as pastor of the Diller Congregational church next Sunday after resigning February 1 for a March 1 effective date. The Pyches came to Diller in 1936 and served the church and community for four years eight months then plan to retire in Scribner Nebraska near West Point where their daughter Mrs Leisy and family reside 138 miles away.

Roy Broadstone Obituary Details Service and Family
Roy Broadstone born June 21 1889 in Hollenburg Kansas died February 11 1941 aged 51 years 8 months and 9 days. He served in World War I with the Rainbow division as a special bodyguard to General Pershing and married Francis Johnson in 1931 having two sons LeRoy and Alfred. Funeral services were held at the Congregational church in Steele City with American Legion involvement and interment in Steele City cemetery. He leaves a wife two sons a daughter Leila and several siblings and many relatives.

Peter Butler Dies at Cottage Grove Oregon Home
Peter Butler brother in law of W A Snyder died at his Cottage Grove Oregon home last week. He was father of the late Earl Snyder and Mrs Mary Snyder Sandman. He lived on a farm southeast of Diller in the early days.

Former Fairbury Man Edgar P. Thompson Dies in California
Edgar P. Thompson a former Fairbury resident died at his Oakland California home. He was son of the late I N Thompson and his wife pioneers for Jefferson county. He leaves two sisters Lillie Spence Fairbury and Anna Juhnke Denver and a brother Homer Fairbury. His wife Hattie Tibbets Thompson died in 1908.

Obituary: George H. Lichty Dies at 63 in Fairbury
George H. Lichty died at his home in Fairbury on February 4 at age 63 years and 26 days. He moved to Diller from Iowa at age three, worked at the Fairchild sorghum factory farm near Diller from age twelve, and remained employed until the Brothers retired from Endicott brick yard. Survived by wife, son Floyd, daughters Hazel Fagen Bush of Masonville Colorado and Opal Mayfield of Fairbury, blind brother John, and sister Mary. Buried in Diller cemetery.
