Mrs Albert Lukas left for Auburn to visit her sister Mrs Katie Verickey for several weeks. Vera Lee, daughter of George Ball, suffered burns from hot coffee last Friday but received prompt care and is recovering well.
Cal Waggoner of Waggoner Bros. hardware and furniture dealers travels to Omaha this week for a convention of Nebraska hardware dealers.
The observer notes the groundhog saw its shadow and rain followed the next day. The speaker remarks if spring arrives as predicted, the pattern resembles the ongoing unsettled weather we've endured since then.
The B. B. Kensington group met with six members and two guests Tuesday afternoon February 4. The next gathering is planned with Mrs Anderson on Tuesday February 11. Mrs Hanson and Mrs Woods head the entertainment committee and each attendee will bring a comic valentine.
The N. R. C. club met Friday evening at Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Grone’s home in Diller. Will Ames won high score and Mrs. Frank Grone was second. A dainty lunch was served. Mr. Minnee Hicken will entertain the club next Friday.
Guests enjoyed rock music and cards at Mr. and Mrs. Less Hill on Friday night. Refreshments included two kinds of ice cream two kinds of cake and coffee. Mrs Geo Roseman won first prize and Less Hill won a low prize for playing cards. Guests left praising the Hill hosts. Next Friday the club will meet at Mr. and Mrs. Mason’s home.
Postmaster General Brown bans decorative Uncle Sam pedestals on rural roads and orders plain white mailbox posts. Officials advocate standardization for visibility and road appearance.
Jack Armstrong's eldest son listed as sick. W. A. Snyder and S. C. Hutchinson visited Beatrice on business Wednesday. Miss Esther Glathar called to Sterling Colorado due to sister Mrs. Harry Weddle's illness. Mrs. S. J. Warman returned to Diller after nursing Mr. Jas. Swain and sister Mrs. White, who are recovering from pneumonia.
Word from California reports Merle E Fish named instructor in salesmanship at the Los Angeles High Night school. He attends Christian College and serves as pastor of the Pho i Christian church of Angeles.
George Rahman takes a brief lay off after a falling object from an electric light pole struck his head while aiding Box Holle. A doctor treated the scalp wound and Rahman is expected to be OK in a few days.
In addition to prior filings, August Kroll seeks renomination for county treasurer on the Democratic ticket at the August primary and O R Jones filed Saturday for the office of county clerk. Jones’ announcement appears elsewhere in these columns.
Nebraska state examiner F B Honza completed a week review of the county treasurer's office finding it to balance to a penny. It marks the second such audit in three years with Kroll's staff praised for efficiency after twenty years of inspections.
The Congregational church hosts a Womans Club meeting on February 12 at 2 30. Mrs C Callander and Arthur J Denney of Fairbury will discuss law enforcement with the theme of world peace and disarmament inviting public attendance.
Geo Rahman motored to Auburn Saturday and spent several days visiting relatives. Joyce Henrichs daughter of Mrs Florence Henrichs had a painful ear infection this week but is improving with time.
Mr and Mrs Roy Garten of Formosa Kansas visited with Mr and Mrs J E Shanks last Friday prior to the Shanks moving to Missouri early next month.
The editor's family were recipients one day this week of a generous sample of old style southern cane syrup from Rev. D. B. McLaughlin who had recently received a quantity from their former home in North Carolina.
Mr and Mrs Everett Dougherty spent time visiting at the home of her parents Mr and Mrs Arthur Grone and with other relatives. They returned to Lincoln Sunday accompanied by Mrs Grone who is visiting relatives in the capitol city.
The J N C club met with Mrs. Frank Grell on Wednesday January 29 despite bad roads. Special guests included Mrs. Martha Rundle and daughter Genevive of Kansas City Mo. No business was held due to secretary absence. Next meeting set with Mrs Albert Hubka in two weeks.
Friends and neighbors in a fifty-guest crowd gathered at Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Hilder’s home Tuesday night to bid them farewell before moving west of Diller. The evening featured a car lighted surprise arrival, a rock game, and refreshments as guests departed with best wishes.
On Thursday January 30 the Dorcas class at the M E Sunday school held a Kensington in the church basement to bid farewell to Mrs Shanks and Mrs George Henrichs. Forty five members attended despite bad roads. Officers were elected with Mrs Chas Hays as president and Mrs Myrtle Northup as vice president. The entertaining committee organized games and a delicious lunch was served by Mesdames Carrico Moser Filley Beckwith and Patton. The group regrets losing Mrs Shanks and hopes Mrs Henrichs will return next year.
