Earl Weigel suffered a severe thumb injury during hog butchering last Tuesday. The hog bit down during the sticking operation, severing the thumb including bone except for a shred of flesh. A doctor reattached the thumb and gave tetanus preventive. patient remains improving as expected.
The Diller faculty attended the county teachers meeting in Endicott on Wednesday December 21. Dinner was served at 6 30 followed by a business meeting and a discussion on Teacher Retirement led by Supt. Clark of Steele City and Supt. Sinkey of Diller. A social time followed.
The Perley Place filed suit in district court this week to detach land from the Village of Diller. Nearby residents debate similar action citing high taxes as the motive.
Miss Eloise Pool of Weeping Water Nebraska was elected last week to replace Mr McCreight as normal training and mathematics instructor. Pool, an experienced teacher, has spent the past year pursuing her master’s degree.
A large audience enjoyed the first films presented at Diller's opera house on Wednesday evening. The pictures pleased attendees and the management was encouraged by the reception of the program. An advertisement promises details for next week's lineup.
The Methodist Sunday school hosts a Christmas program Friday at 7 30. The pageant Gifts of Gladness is presented by the young people with the primary department offering recitations and songs.

Otho Jennings moves part of his blacksmith and welding outfit into the building south of the Record office. Dr S B Viers plans to set up in the Green Room Cafe space he bought, but will not move into the Loock residence.
Mrs Elizabeth Fouts travels from Burlington to Kansas City to visit her niece and husband Mr and Mrs J Bowes. They will take her to Rock Island Illinois to spend the Christmas season with her brother Christ Madden's family. She plans to return to Diller before an extended visit with her children.
The N. B. Club met at Elnora Eden's on December 16 with eleven members present. Mrs. Will Roseman and daughter Velma attended. Members made yoo goos and exchanged gifts, then enjoyed cake cookies pudding and coffee. Next meeting set for Lola Giesbrecht on January 16 1939.
Harm Diekman, an elderly man with rheumatism, lives with son Carl on the Seede Wiemers place. He is improving and cuts wood for exercise while his brother Henry, 15 years younger, has been ill at Beatrice.
Rolf Beckman completed interior remodeling for Henry Wiemers four miles west of Diller. A new gas heating unit was installed, arches linked living rooms and hall, and oak floors were laid creating a thoroughly modern home.
Mr and Mrs Johnny Ferry relocate from Susie Brandt’s residence in the town’s north to their grandparents home on Short street in Slocumb.
Fred DeBoer moves from Reynolds to a home four miles southwest of town, joining his son William DeBoer and family.
George Arnold of Geneva came to town on Monday to handle business matters and called this office during his visit.
Mrs. Claude Ellis stayed overnight at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Hays in Beatrice following Friday.
Dorothy Nippert and Raymond Malchow were married at the Luther an parsonage in Ellis Nebraska on Friday afternoon December 16 1938 Reverend Ernstmeier officiated Attendants were Laura Malchow and Willard Nippert The bride wore a navigator blue velvet dress and a lace collar from her great grandmother Margery Alexander McNay The wedding dinner for guests followed at the bride’s parents home Mr and Mrs Joe Nippert A large white wedding cake and candles decorated the table Guests included Mr and Mrs Raymond Malchow Mr and Mrs Krause and daughters Shirley and Barbara and several Nippert relatives.
A Monday evening meeting at the county courthouse addressed laying off about 90 WPA workers in Jefferson County. Attendees noted widespread financial distress at county state and federal levels, with relief organizations outlining their positions and the need to support families in need.
Mr and Mrs Chas E Waggoner visited Lincoln with Rev H H Pych and Roy Patton last Friday. Chas W and Roy Patton saw Roy P's brother Harry Patton who recently had a serious stomach operation and is said to be up and around and recovering well.
Mr and Mrs Milton Fry traveled from Hershey Nebraska on Sunday evening to spend a day or two with Quinter Fry and family and to visit relatives and friends. They also had some business including a Record subscription.
Miss Ruth Pyche traveled from Lincoln last weekend to spend the holidays at her parents' home, joining family celebrations during the festive period.

Mrs Matilda Hauver Mary Matilda Lange born April 4 1855 near Bedford Quebec died December 17 1938 at Fred Hauver s home near Diller Nebraska aged 83 years 8 months 13 days She was a pioneer wife of Wm Haover married August 16 1872 and survived by four children and twelve grandchildren with two sisters and three great grandchildren Funeral services were held at Fred Hauver s home Interment at Upson cemetery southeast of Diller Card of Thanks from the Hauver family.
Mr and Mrs Fred Henrichs traveled to Lincoln late last week to fetch their daughter Miss Eunice Henrichs who works as a supervisor at Lincoln General Hospital and is spending the holidays at home.
