Village Council Reviews Beatrice Power Franchise

Oilmen and farmers attend the Tuesday evening meeting at city hall to hear R R Thomas explain the Beatrice Power Co. franchise adopted on first reading. No objections were raised as residents voice only minor complaints about high line changes near Diller and Jack Hill school. The council notes satisfaction with service and new rates effective January first.

Visit of Loomis Couple to Death Notice Relative

Mr and Mrs Loomis of Dixon Illinois stayed with Mr and Mrs Chas Waggoner in Diller last Saturday night en route from Scotts Bluff Nebraska to Raschell Illinois. Loomis is a sheep shearer and wool judge traveling for work. They came to Diller to visit F Hartzell not knowing of his death. They had worked for Lincoln Hartzell near Dixon who is in poor health.

Appointments Made for County Offices and Staff

Tom Rigdon, a former Diller boy, will be deputy county clerk serving with Homer Brunk after January 1. Miss Reid will be stenographer. Mrs Edna Mc Cassie remains in the clerk's office for a time. Dwight Young appointed deputy sheriff Frank Knoocke of Fairfield. Russell McCreight has not announced an assistant post in the superintendent's office.

Andrew Hardy Herman died in Lincoln Nebraska at the home of his sister on Saturday December 10 1938 he was born January 11 1865 in Cass County Illinois. He lived in Tecumseh Nemaha Richardson Humboldt and Diller Nebraska throughout his life. Funeral services were held at Traum funeral parlors in Fairbury with Rev H Pyche officiating and he was buried in Humboldt Nebraska.

Christmas Party For Congr Sunday School Class

The men of the Congregational Sunday school joined by their wives and children gathered at Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Green’s home for a Christmas party. The pastor spoke on general themes, the ladies quartet sang, and the group joined in carols. Rev Pyche ran a salvage sale and neckties were auctioned back at 10 cents. Refreshments followed and attendees left satisfied with a profitable evening.

Ross E Hill, 82, Dies at Beatrice Home

Ross E Hill age 82 longtime resident of the northeast Diller area died at his Beatrice home Sunday evening after a period of failing health. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Ellis Methodist Church with Rev. C F Waggoner officiating. Interment followed in Ellis Cemetery.

Death notices W D Delano Fairbury man passes away

W D Delano died at a Fairbury hospital Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock. Funeral services will be held from Traum Funeral Home in Fairbury Saturday at 2 PM. He had suffered a heart ailment for some time. The Delano family recently moved to Fairbury from Diller.

Grading Finished on Highway to Jack Hill Schoolhouse

The Diller grade school staged Rip Van Winkle at the opera house on Wednesday evening. Every student reportedly had a part with all appearing in the final chorus. Roe Patton played Rip, Marilyn Miller his wife, and Stanley Diller Nicholas Vedder with Green Ball as the sea captain.

Automobile Thieving Report From Odell Area

The Odell Oracle reports three cars stolen from local residents last week. Frank Dailey’s car was taken from a garage on Wednesday November 30 and found on a Beatrice street with a loaded sawed off shotgun and a .22 rifle inside. John Fink’s car was stolen Monday night December 5 near Pawnee City and found abandoned three miles northwest of Odell on Wednesday morning. a handle from the Dailey car was found nearby.
