The Record will print Wednesday evening the next two weeks due to Christmas and New Year holidays and no mail delivery on those Fridays. All correspondence and advertising must arrive at least one day earlier. items mailed Wednesday morning will be late for publication.
Doctor Diehl and John Steiner depart Monday morning in Diehl’s car bound for Oklahoma City. They plan to take No. 66 and travel to Los Angeles at a leisurely pace, estimating about ten days on the road. Steiner deputizes ex-Mayor Moser to chair the village council during the absence.
Thelma Lucille Hemminger daughter of Mr and Mrs J H Hemminger and Elmer Emmett Rains were married in the Centenary M E church parlor by Rev Travis on Wednesday December 16 A reception followed at the bride’s parents home with forty relatives and friends present Mr and Mrs Calvin Waggoner and Mr and Mrs Charles Waggoner of Diller attended The couple will establish a home on a farm five miles southwest of Beatrice
Dr Aubrey Diller arrived in New York aboard the Washington from Paris last Thursday December 10. He is expected to reach his father J Smith Diller's home this Sunday to spend the holidays with the family after two years abroad doing college extension work in Greek and Latin literature.
Rev. Pyche spoke at the Presbyterian Men’s Club gathering in the basement of the local church Tuesday evening. Attendees included O. J. Mayborn Francis Clark and Charles Waggoner. the club, formed years ago, meets monthly for programs and refreshments seven months yearly.
John Sedlacek of Odell trades an unimproved 40 acres near Odell for an improved parcel likely near May’s property. Wm Plager holds 40 acres just west of town. Repairs are underway on the Sedlacek property as he plans to move his family to Diller around February first.
Paul Beckwith of Omaha sold his 160 acre farm located about 34 miles south of town to John A. Duisop near Odell. The sale carried an annual price advance over the amount paid for the property a couple of years earlier.
Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Moser enjoyed a visit Tuesday from Fred Moser of Kansas. Also visiting were Mrs. McNee and her son in law and wife Thomas Jones of Trenton, Nebraska.
The Farmers Co-Op Store will stay open day and evening all next week. The notice announces continuous hours and excludes no days or special closures.
A farewell party was held in the city hall on a Wednesday evening to honor Mrs. Pearl Borman and Mr Wm Trostman who will leave Diller soon. Mrs Borman heads to Fort Worth Texas and Mr Trostman to Sheldon Wisconsin. A supper was served cafeteria style and many friends attended including Mr and Mrs Alfred Carmichael and a long list of neighbors and family.
Miss Donna Hiatt daughter of Mr and Mrs C J Hiatt and home with her grandmother at Beatrice is a junior in the college of agriculture at the University of Nebraska. She was elected to the national honorary society for home economics students for scholarship leadership and character. Hiatt and other new members were presented to the student body at the annual agricultural college honors convocation.
Cornbelt Lumber advertises Oklahoma coal as high quality and free burning with no clinker at 7.75 dollars per ton. Consumers are urged to try a ton this winter to reduce fuel costs and be convinced by the savings.
A U S Bureau report ranks states by how much value of farms is owned by the operators. Nebraska: about 33 percent owned by operators in 1980. Maine at 77.7 percent. Tenants excluded and mortgage debt counted to mortgage holders. Cal Ward cites high indebtedness and farm bankruptcies as drivers. Nebraska tenancy rose from 18 percent in 1880 to 49 percent in 1935. the south leads in tenant farming among regions.
Mrs Lulu Babb of Nevis Minnesota writes of Otis Babb's death. Diller family extends sympathies. Mrs Hayworth, their mother, is recovering and able to work. Saylor says severe weather grips northern Minnesota as the Saylor couple stay spry for age.
At Naomi Chapter No. 44 stated meeting on Tuesday December 15 officers were elected for the coming term Claudia Schindler W M Lewis M Cavett W P Fannie Manning Asst W M John O Blauser Asst W P Clare B Waggoner Secretary Martha B Cavett Treasurer These officers and other appointed officers will be installed January 5 by the incoming Worthy Matron.
The Ladies Aid of St Pauls Church will hold a food sale Saturday night at the Anes Store as announced last week.

Frances May Gerard daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Gerard was born near Monitor Tippecanoe county Indiana on December 27 1866. She died in Halstead Kansas on December 9 1936 at age 70 11 12. She married Mr Carmichael December 27 1906 and he died August 10 1936. Surviving children include Vance Carmichael Steele City Kansas Mrs Alfred Sisk Troy Kansas Mrs Perry Weaver Alfred Carmichael Diller and Ethelbert Carmichael Fairbury plus twenty grandchildren and two predeceased. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church last Saturday with Dr Harry F Huntington officiating Burial was in Prairie Home Cemetery.
Mrs. E B Maxey 58 wife of Rev E B Maxey of Inman Nebr died at home last Sunday night Her funeral was held at Wadlow s Chapel Lincoln Rev Hamilton of Osceola officiating She survived by her husband two daughters three sons her mother four sisters and a brother Also five grandchildren Rev Maxey formerly served the Diller Church.
Otis J Babb a former Diller Nebraska resident died Friday December 4 at his farm near Nevis Minnesota after a long heart illness. He was born September 11 1875 in Mount Sterling Iowa and married Lulu Hayworth on November 9 1895 in Springfield Illinois. Funeral at the Christian church with Rev Charles Swindell of Laporte officiating. He leaves wife two daughters Bessie Mrs Forest Smith of Sebeka MN and Beulah Mrs Gorman Nerlie of Clinton MO and four grandchildren.

Jefferson County Conservation Association learns that a new federal farm program modeled on 1936 outlines is being worked out after farmer meetings nationwide. Details are sparse but changes reflect farmers input. State officials may call a conference soon and educational meetings are planned after year start. About ten counties have payments underway for the Agricultural Conservation program this year. Jefferson County finished the first transmittal last week and payments are expected early next year.
The Lincoln Journal Star highlights county agent Kenneth C. Fouts of Seward for nine years of service shaping Seward County 4-H. A featured photo shows a 45 by 80 foot community house he championed, praised as one of the Midwest’s most attractive 4-H club buildings.
The J N C Club gathered at Mrs. Keith Hays home on December 9 with most members present and guests Mrs. Adolph Bevan Mrs. Rudolph Hubka and Miss Gwendolyn LePoidevin. A year book plan and entertainment committee were formed. Prizes and a grab box gift exchange accompanied a luncheon featuring chicken Saint pickles cranberry cake and whipped bananas. Next meeting is January 13 at Mrs. Hirmen Huls.
Bernard Patton returned home Wednesday afternoon from Douglas Wyoming to spend the holidays with his parents Mr and Mrs and relatives. He is employed by a crude oil company and expects to return to work after the visit.
