Dr O C Diehl and John Steiner plan to leave Diehl’s car next week for a three month trip to the south west. They intend to hike along the route to reach a warmer climate and then travel slowly to southern California for health reasons amid Diehl’s intermittent illness.
Wolves to the south-west of Diller are numerous. Last Sunday the hunt captured two of a dozen or more animals entangled by lines though several thin spots allowed many to escape. Talks of another hunt and CCC boys aiding with lines are under consideration.
WPA foreman Harry Thompson reports that all farmer labor on the Gage County line to Fairbury road gang will be laid off next Monday. This will leave the crew insufficient to continue progress, with farmers eligible for the work expected to be recalled around mid January.
Alfred Matthews' balloon explosion experience keeps appearing across newspapers in the United States. The Boston Post clipping dated November 10 is received by Gilbert Bauguess of 17 Vogel Street West Baxburg Massachusetts.
Word reached Wednesday that H Z Ditler is recovering well at St Elizabeth hospital in Lincoln after an operation for a hernia performed last Saturday. Friends anticipate his full return home soon.
Last Friday night a weather change began with rain. Rain continued through Saturday and turned to snow by evening. About one inch of rain and two inches of snow were observed in the region.
The Odell Oracle notes R. E. Clark is out of the hospital several days and feeling good. Mrs. Clark underwent a major operation on Nov 30 at the Hastings hospital. The Clarks formerly resided in Odell.

Clarence Steffen joined Lincoln branch members of the International Harvester Company to attend a ten day sales school in Denver. They left Lincoln on the Zephyr at 2 30 Sunday morning for the remote program and will face exams to gauge how much instruction they absorbed.
The Methodist group thanks town folk for their support at last Saturday's supper. Rain kept farmers away, causing food shortages. Managers used engineering to stretch limited supplies and meet demand.
A new time card took effect Sunday morning altering Burlington's schedule. Eastbound No 16 departs Diller at 1 05 pm with a 2 01 am meeting of two night passengers at Diller. Westbound No 7 leaves at 5 34 pm as before.

Mrs. Ensley Carmichael died Wednesday morning at a Halstead Kansas hospital. Chas and Keith Waggoner transported the body to Waggoner's Funeral Home arriving Wednesday evening. Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced. Her husband Ensley Carmichael died in August.
Jefferson County Red Cross exceeded its 800 member goal by 56 with town totals led by Fairbury at 686 and smaller sums from Diller Daykin Steele City Reynolds Jensen Endicott Plymouth and rural areas. Officials thank all contributors and canvassers for support.
An auction will be held at the Hutchinson building Saturday afternoon starting at 1:00 PM. New goods and used articles will be sold with some free gifts offered. Roy Schultis serves as auctioneer.

A Rock Island branch line eastbound from Fairbury derailed one mile south of Beatrice after frozen mud on a wagon road crossing caused the pony track to run off. The drive wheels stayed on rails but buckled them, derailing four of eleven cars and throwing the engine onto its side. No serious injuries were reported.

Word from Mr Carl Stange says he reached Fontana California safely on Thanksgiving day. An industrious man he planted a cabbage patch soon after arriving. He expects to receive his Diller Record on Monday and keeps posted. He is feeling fine and sends regards to all.

The Burly Journal reports radical changes in Rock Island trains 5 and 6 and a shift from steam to motor power between Omaha and Belleville Kansas with changes to take effect January 3 1937 after officials seek Nebraska Railway Commission approval. Helen reportedly does not want the Pullman service.
Extension agent W E Thorman announces a public educational meeting on extending electricity to rural areas. The session will analyze feasibility, applications, and impact, inviting all interested in rural electrification to attend.
