Santa Claus appears at the Bonham Theatre in Fairbury on Saturday afternoon December 18 for a free Christmas party hosted by local merchants. Traveling by plane to visit over 2,000 children, he gives oranges to each attendee as part of the event coordinated by the Bonham Theatre and the Fairbury Chamber of Commerce Merchants committee.
Rural mail carrier Scott Miller of Diller was stricken on his route December 7 and rushed to Dr Lynch’s Hospital in Farnbury for emergency surgery. He is out of danger and slowly mending. No visitors except immediate family are allowed, and a return home date is uncertain though he hopes to be home for Christmas. He sends greetings and says hi to everyone.
The public is invited to a program and plate supper at the School, two miles south of Diier, on Wednesday, December 22 at 8 30 p m. Martha Evers, teacher.

Mr and Mrs Scott Miller Jr of Crete spent Saturday night with Scott Miller Sr and traveled by bus to Fairbury returning by the same route. They visited his father who is confined in Dr Lynch hospital there and Scott Jr also spent last Wednesday night with him at the hospital.
J Smith Diller records a surprise letter from his son Roger to Ted Henrichs Jr aboard ship 43 as he transfers overseas. The two Marines, Ted Henrichs and Roger, are sons of Theodore and Mrs Henrichs of Diller, and meet during the journey after landing.
Mrs James Pickard notes a letter from her son Bill who is somewhere on the Pacific. He met Lynn Waggoner and they had a good visit. The mothers of the two boys are pleased, remarking that the world is a small place.
Gilbert Plager son of Mr and Mrs Wm Plager has been promoted to Corporal. He is stationed at Carolina Beach North Carolina awaiting further orders and duties.
The public is invited to a planned event on December 21st at 8 30. Sponsored by Mrs Aooa Lamb a local teacher the notice invites community attendance.
Mrs John Sedlacek is slowly recovering at home following an operation several weeks ago in Lincoln.

Lt and Mrs D R Garrels announce the arrival of a daughter Linda Lucile at Bryan Memorial Hospital on December 10 1943 Mother and daughter are doing well.
Cadet Freddie Drexler on furlough with parents Mr and Mrs Alfred Drexler of Steele City spent Wednesday night in Diller meeting many local friends at a basketball game. He serves in the air corps and has been assigned to special work at the University of Columbus Ohio. He departed Monday for the assignment.
Ardith Wolken daughter of Mr and Mrs Mahlon Wolken is slowly improving after serious illness. Mr S C Hutchinson recently having an operation is progressing as well as can be expected at a hospital in Omaha.
Lawrence Caldwell learned that his case Caldwell v City, KS is improving after a recent illness. The report notes progress in the legal matter as proceedings continue in Kansas City.
