Fanders Family Air Trip For Thanksgiving Visit

Mr and Mrs D V Fanders with Gretchen and Bud visited Mrs Fanders parents in Guide Rock for Thanksgiving. Wendell Fanders and his friend Erwin Shutt of Grand Island Nebraska flew from Hastings in a chartered plane to Guide Rock for dinner. Wendell has been taking flying lessons from Miss Evelyn Sharp of Ord Nebraska and has recently been flying solo.

University of Nebraska official to speak with Diller seniors

Mr. C. A. Morse of the University of Nebraska will visit Diller Tuesday morning December 13 to address the senior class. He will discuss post high school plans and future career possibilities, noting his authority on opportunities in various vocations.

Death notices Frank Madden Meridian Idaho

Mrs. Fouts received word Tuesday forenoon of the death of her brother Frank Madden at his Meridian Idaho home. He died Tuesday morning at eighty four years old. He was the oldest of his siblings and cancer was the immediate cause. Frank Madden was a resident of this area in his youth.

Band Concert Pleases Diller Municipal Band Audience

The Diller Municipal Band under Mr. Supalsbe gave a well rendered concert Wednesday evening to a small audience. Highlights included Voice of the Mount, Songs of the Sea with Eva Green on bass sousaphone, a comic reading by Reuben Fanders, and a polka with Budd Clark. Marilyn Miller wowed the crowd with baton twirling. pop corn and candy were sold at the door. Mrs. Carl Ludington sponsors. A follow up concert is planned after the holidays.

Miss Phyllis Naugle Accepts State Welfare Post

Miss Phyllis Naugle leaves her role as secretary to Genevieve Clark county superintendent to become private secretary to Lois Van Valkenburgh director of Child Welfare at the State Home for Dependent Children in Lincoln. Naugle and her mother will depart Fairbury this week. she starts new duties Monday.

Methodist ladies reported a successful bazaar and supper at the church basement last night. Booths were attractively decorated and the meal met church standards. More than $8000 was added to the class treasury through their efforts.

Nebraska farmer speaks to nation on NBC Farm and Home program

Henry Wiemers of Diller reported to a national audience via NBC from Chicago during the National Live Stock Show. He promoted his diversified farm activities and received re election as director of the National Suffolk Mutton Sheep Association and the National Karakal Fur Sheep Association, both based in Chicago. He also met brother Orville Wiemers of Iowa during the trip.

Anderson secures all Big Six nod in Star selections

Kansas State guard Ferrel Anderson was named to the all Big Six team by C E McBride of the Kansas City Star and earned honorable mention on the all American list. Anderson is the nephew of W E Anderson of this place. The Lincoln Journal named Fairbury’s Ed Patton as an outstanding high school back last Sunday.
